The Legendary Band Genesis Officially Retires From Live Performing!
Sad news for fans of live music – especially when it’s classic music like this: the band Genesis announced that this week’s live shows in London will be their last…
Most fans know the band based not his lineup: the group’s drummer Phil Collins, keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist Mike Rutherford.
These three created massive hits like “Invisible Touch”, Follow You Follow Me”, “No Reply At All”, “Mama” and “Tonight tonight Tonight” among so many others…here they are, live from London’s O2 stadium…
These concerts were postponed due to the pandemic, and Collins, age 71 and increasingly frail with back and hip issues, has spoken before about his inability to perform live.
For these live shows, he sat center stage, and reports say he was in good humor, reportedly joking that he’ll now need to find a real job after the band’s demise.
The trio were joined on the tour by Collins’ son, Nic, who filled in for his father on drums!
His daughter, Actress Lily Collins was there to see it as was the band’s original lead singer Peter Gabriel!

Genesis formed in 1967 and were a hugely popular progressive rock band in the 1970s with lead singer Peter Gabriel, selling more than 100 million records. Collins became the band’s drummer and backing vocalist in 1970 before becoming lead vocalist in 1975 when Gabriel left for a solo career.
This photo of them together was for an incredible documentary about the band called “The Sum Of Their Parts” – it’s a brutally candid look at the group dynamic, including why Gabriel left the band!

I’m a huge Genesis fan. They have been a part of my life for decades. I’m sorry that Phil is virtually paralyzed. They did well!

An incredible band. I loved so many of their tunes, as well as Phil’s solo work. It’s sad to see our heroes reduced to a shell of themselves, but what a run. My favorite Genesis song has to be “Mama,” which I will listen to right now as a symbol of my respect.

this is one of my all-time favorite bands. I’ve seen them live, and met them casually sitting at my bar late at night when I was a cocktail waitress years ago. so nice

I saw Genesis live once, at the Fairfiled Halls in Croydon, South London. A long-haired Pete Gabriel was the lead singer, and their big stage number that night was ‘I know what I like in your wardrobe’. It must have been around 1973, because Gabriel left the band in 1975.
When Phil Collins released ‘Face Value’ in 1981, I bought a copy that week. It was such a huge hit album, I didn’t know anyone who didn’t have a copy.
