Celebrating Nicolas Cage And HIs “Massive Talent!“
We all have our favorite Nicolas Cage film, whether it’s “The Rock” or “National Treasure”, “Face/Off”,”Con Air” or even his Oscar-winning performance in “Leaving Las Vegas” – but now, he’s taken on the performance of a lifetime – he’s playing himself!
His new film opens in April, and just got a standing ovation at the SXSW Conference – why the acclaim? Because he stars as a fictionalized version of himself!
As The Hollywood Reporter says:
When Nicolas Cage first heard the premise of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, he says that he was “vaguely offended!”
Here’s how they describe the plot:
“In writer-director Tom Gormican’s comedy, a fictionalized, egocentric, down-on-his-luck version of Nicolas Cage accepts a $1 million offer from a wealthy mega-fan (Pedro Pascal) to attend a party in Spain and finds himself in a real-life action-adventure and tumbling down a rabbit hole of references to his past roles.”
The Actor’s financial problems with the IRS years ago are well known, and he has been in a lot of films in the past few years to dig himself out of that hole…still, he didn’t think this was the right move for him at first.
“I turned it down three or four times,” Cage told The Hollywood Reporter in a candid, in-depth interview – but we are so happy he finally changed his mind!
The advance buzz on the film is huge – and the Actor admits that his past problems both on and off-camera may be what made this the right film for him right now.
“I do think every movie I’ve made that hasn’t worked has all led me to this place where I’m at now, where I can do a movie like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and I can tell the story with some integrity and authenticity to it. Everything happened for a reason.”
Here is the massively entertaining trailer:
Cage is one of the most unique Actors working today, as evidenced by this other critically-acclaimed film out now:
This made many “best of 2021” lists and is now streaming. You can see a review of “Pig” by clicking on my story here:
I was aware that Cage was appearing in a lot of films – in fact, I watched 6 of them in a single day!
Here’s how that turned out:
One of the most fascinating documentaries I’ve seen was all about Nicolas Cage – and the ill-fated “Superman” movie he almost starred in!
Yes, Director Tim Burton was going to make a film with Cage as the “Man Of Steel” but it all fell apart – click here for the inside story on why:

My “Dinner And A Movie” takes a deep dive into this classic comedy with Cher and Cage – and it includes the recipe for “eggs in the hole” from the film!

Loved this movie. It’s been a long drought on good movies since COVID and the onslaught of streaming carriers. Great pace well written and some nice little twists that I won’t spoil.

He is a different character, but one I enjoy. I’m now of the few people alive who haven’t seen The Rock, but I loved National Treasure.

Nicholas Cage is one of my favorites. When I first saw him in Moonstruck and Cher slapped him, I was hooked. National Treasure is my favorite of his movies. This new one looks wonderful- loved the trailer. Thank you, John!

I must admit, I enjoy his work even if he is a little over the top. He comes from a very talented family.

Indeed he does…and he just keeps working…maybe a bit eccentric but who isn’t? Thanks for the comment!
