Bravo Kelly Clarkson!
This incredible Singer / Songwriter wow’ed the crowd at the Academy of Country Music Awards last night, singing Dolly Parton’s iconic song “I Will Always Love You!”

As Vulture reported:
It was the moment we’d been waiting for — and the ACMs made us wait. After over 100 minutes of show, we finally got that promised Kelly Clarkson tribute to Parton, and if you had any doubt? She delivered. Clarkson took on the mother of all covers, “I Will Always Love You,” written by Parton before it was popularized by Whitney Houston. She sang a simple, true rendition of the song, showing off her signature belt without ever overdoing it. “I was backstage trying not to cry my false eyelashes off and slinging snot every direction and tears,” a bashful Parton said after. Her and the rest of us.

Hi John, Kelly did a great job with this song. I though it was a Whitney Houston song, maybe she sang a cover version.

Robbie, Dolly Parton wrote it, but Whitney made it iconic! Kelly sang Dolly’s original version, she’d never try to replicate Whitney…and to reiterate, the show asked Kelly to sing it, she avoids singing such iconic songs!

Kelly did a fabulous job. I listened to her version, then Whitney’s, and hers again and she is very good.

Thanks for listening…she is reticent to “cover” an iconic song but as I said, requested by the show – and Dolly loved it!

Nicely done. I love Dolly and Kelly’s version. Still can’t help but feel Whitney “owns” this song.
My son mentioned he’s got tickets to see Coldplay in Atlanta this year. I assume you will be seeing them?

Yes. But know the show was honoring Dolly and Kelly was asked to perform this song it wasn’t her choice

Also, Coldplay will be at Sofi stadium in LA, the WORST place to get in and out of..probably won’t for that reason – there is NO parking for crowds so big and there is NO public transportation that goes there easily…a real mess…

She did a great job, John. So many people here only associate that song with Whitney, but I actually prefer Dolly’s original.
Best wishes, Pete.

Kelly sang Dolly’s version, and just to reiterate, it wasn’t Kelly’s choice: she tends to avoid any song that is so identifiable with a certain iconic singer…she is VERY respectful to the Artists she covers…she was asked to perform this by the show since they had a tribute to Dolly…

Oh yes, I got that, John. It is just in the UK that the song is so associated with Whitney, when I told my step-daughter it was originally a DP song, she roared with laughter and didn’t believe me. 🙂

No one does! that’s why Kelly avoids iconic performances and never tries to replicate them…but she was asked to do air and of course did for Dolly – anything for Dolly! Kelly did her first christmas album because she LOVED Dolly’s “Hard Candy Christmas” song so much!
