RIP Producer/Director Ivan Reitman…A Comic Genius Remembered….

RIP Ivan Reitman…

Sad news to report – the iconic Producer / Director Ivan Reitman died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday at the age of 75, his family has confirmed…

As Deadline. com reported:

“Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life,” children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman, and Caroline Reitman said in a joint statement to the outlet.

The statement continues, “We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”

Reitman was born in Czechoslovakia on October 27, 1946, but Toronto would become his home at the age of 4. His family moved to Canada where a relative was already established.

His big break came in 1978 when he produced “National Lampoon’s Animal House” – one of the funniest comedies of all time.

It made John Belushi a movie star and introduced “Toga! Toga! Toga!” as an iconic catchphrase:

Reitman directed the hit comedy “Meatballs” a year later.

He became a “King Of Comedy”,producing and/or directing “Stripes“, “Twins“, “Kindergarten Cop“, “Dave“, “Space Jam“, and more.

His most iconic film however was the 1984 classic “Ghostbusters” – it starred Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, who also wrote the screenplay, along with Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, and Annie Potts.

The film earned two Academy Award nominations: Best Original Song for “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker, and Best Visual Effects.

RIP Ivan Reitman – a legend in the world of film…

  1. 75 is not that old by today’s standards, John. I enjoyed Ghostbusters and I remember Meatballs.
