I have heard about this and will have to tune in! I watched a chilling fictional series called Catfish. The internet can be a frightening place.

I’ve experienced the scam of the virtual, perfect man telling me what I want to hear and then asking for funds so we can be together. The sting was painful. As Pete said, pretty pathetic. How low we go when we are lonely!

Yes. Desperation. I wondered what horrible life he must have to think of duping an American woman like that.

Sadly, it’s just one way in which people are manipulated through social media and disguising abuse

In Britain, we have had some famous cases of ‘mature’ women being swindled out of small fortunes when looking for love on dating apps. I have to say that if someone I liked online asked me for £10,000 to pay off a debt, or £5,000 for flights and hotel bills so they could visit me, I would know immediately that something was badly wrong. Sad to say, sending that money reeks of desperation. Then sending even more money later is just pathetic.
Best wishes, Pete.
