“The Godfather” Turns 50! Here’s A New Trailer For The Upcoming Re-Release!

“The Godfather” Is Back!

Cinephiles are rejoicing with news that the greatest film of all time is returning to theaters to celebrate its 50th birthday!

Released in February 1972, “The Godfather” quickly became the great box office success of all time, and went on to win Oscars for Best Picture, Director, Actor and more!

“I’m Gonna Make Him An Offer He Can’t Refuse.”

This line, spoken by Don Corleone, is one of cinema’s greatest quotes, and now you can see it again on the big screen, as the film is being re-released for a special run on February 25th!

Here is the trailer for the 50th Anniversary celebration:

I cannot wait to see this again in a theater – it’s the greatest film of all time in my opinion, and here’s just one reason:

The Horse’s Head Was Real!

Yes, THIS was the “offer” he couldn’t refuse…one piece of great trivia in a film packed with so many great stores!

Click here to see them all!

And if you’ve seen the movie as many times as I have, you know the palatial estate where Producer Jack Woltz wakes up to the horse head is in my neighborhood…and it was recently for sale!

Yes, The “Woltz Estate” was recently sold – click here to see inside!

“The Godfather Part II” sequel in 1974 also won Best Picture, the first time that had happened…but “Part 3” in 1990, while nominated for Best Picture, didn’t fare as well with critics…until now!

Coppola went back into the film recently and extensively re-cut the film, making critics reappraise it – click here to see how:

One other thing I love about “The Godfather” is the food – yes, the food!

When the families “go to the mattresses”, Michael Corleone gets a lesson on cooking for a bunch of holed-up Mobsters.

Well, I’ve made “Clemenza’s meatballs” and they are delicious! You can see the entire recipe here:

  1. The Godfather has been spoken of, and quoted from, my entire life, John. Fantastic that this iconic movie is getting this recognition.

  3. This is one of the greats! I remember being on the beach and reading the book (outstanding) in 1970 when I was in college. It is better than the movie, yet the music and cast make the movie rival the book.

  4. I worked with craft service man who was in charge of the food on the set. He said his hardest job was to keep Coppolla from eating the food after it was laid out.

  7. I have just been sitting here working out how many times I have seen the first ‘Godfather’ film.
Twice at the cinema, within three months of its release. (I must have been 20 years old then.)
Then at least twice on VHS, after I bought a copy in the 1980s.
Perhaps three more times when it was shown on TV over the years.
Then I bought the DVD in the late 1990s, and watched that to see the enhanced quality.
At least eight times! (Though I actually prefer Part Two as a more complete film.)
    Best wishes, Pete.
