Welcome To The Top Of Angel’s Landing!

My wife Alex took this picture of her hand gripping a rock – oh, which happens to be 1,542 feet above Zion National Park in Utah!

This is the top of “Angel’s Landing” – one of the most dangerous and exhilarating hikes you can do! Let’s look at just how high up you go:

This is the view from the ground….the highest point of the peak on the right is Angel’s Landing, named when first seen because it towered toward heaven…because it’s so high, the hike to the top is a series of ever-more-strenuous “switchbacks” like this:

As you can see, there are no guardrails at all, and as you climb higher and higher, you really have to pay attention – in fact, at the top chains have been added to hold onto as the path is so narrow and the drop-off is 1,000 feet+…

You can hike all the way to the top – as long as you don’t mind dangling over the side of a mountain like we did:

I will share this entire adventure soon, but that was a sneak peek of an incredible adventure Alex and I had at Zion National Park in Utah…where we also hiked “The Narrows”, a trek through magnificent canyons – and through a river!

Alex shared the trip on Instagram when we got back to our lodge – since there is no cell service inside the park – and she gave me a nickname as well:

I Am “Water Man!”

Yes, when you hike through the river itself, it gets up to your waist at several points…I will be sharing this in much more detail as well…including our trip to “The Toadstools”:

There is so much incredible scenery here, and I promise to share it all with you, like this sunset from our camp tent:

I’ll give more details on where we were and how we got there – including our drive past the world’s largest thermometer, which on this day was at 100 degrees!

It’s all part of our “staycation” adventures: when you can’t travel long distances, why not try to find the magic close to home?

That includes our adventures at the edge of the world – California edition!
