Here’s some great breaking music news: Mick Jagger and Dave Grohl teamed up on a pandemic-themed song!
The Rolling Stones and Foo Fighters frontmen co-wrote Eazy Sleazy, which dropped Tuesday, with the former handling guitar and vocals, and the latter playing drums, guitar and bass.
Here are some of the timely lyrics, describing life in a locked down world:
“That’s a pretty mask / But never take a chance Tik Tok stupid dance / Took a Samba class I landed on my ass / Trying to write a tune / You better hook me up to Zoom!”
The track continues with this:
“Cancel all the tours / Football’s fake applause / No more travel brochures / Way too much TV / It’s lobotomizing me.”
As Rolling Stone magazine reports, Jagger and Grohl also take aim at some of the wilder coronavirus conspiracy theories that have been floating around since last year:
“Shooting the vaccine / Bill Gates is in my bloodstream / It’s mind control.”
Here is “Eazy Sleazy”:
Here’s what The Rolling Stones lead singer said in a press release that accompanied the track’s music video:
“It’s a song that I wrote about coming out of lockdown, with some much-needed optimism. Thanks to Dave Grohl for jumping on drums, bass and guitar, it was a lot of fun working with him – hope you all enjoy Eazy Sleazy.”
Here’s what Dave Grohl had to say about working with Mick:
“It’s hard to put into words what recording this song with Sir Mick means to me. It’s beyond a dream come true. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any crazier… and it’s the song of the summer, without a doubt!”
Jagger told the magazine that he wrote the song as “a reflection on the last year; the physical and mental strains put on society.” He added this:
“The whole year, we’ve been doing this and going through different emotions through it and having false starts and stops and openings and closings.”
It’s a terrific and timely collaboration!
I’ve written about Jagger and the band before, but did you ever see the film he made his Rolling Stones Guitarist Keith Richards?
Well, the film included a nude bathtub scene between the two – and Keith was NOT HAPPY.

I love Performance (1970)! It’s a fascinating little film.

Yes, I do as well…I have a DVD of it and it’s a great example of early 70’s “art crime”….a double bill with “Get Carter” is in order, and maybe add “The Long Good Friday” for just how great British crime fiction can be! Thanks for commenting!

Jagger is a pretty good actor (like him in Ned Kelly and Freejack). It’s too bad that he has not made more movies.

He seems to have done it for a lark, not seriously…but he was pretty good onscreen!

Great timing, John! I was just listening to some Foo Fighters right before I came to your post. My week isn’t complete until I get my wife coming by, shaking her head in wonder at how her old fart husband still loves his rock music.😎

Maybe not for me, John. Two of my least favourite pop groups. (I know, everyone loves the Stones and the Foo Fighters, so they say. But I only really like ‘Gimme Shelter’, and I prefer the Merry Clayton version. Sorry!)
But if you like it, that’s fine with me.
Best wishes, Pete.

We would have to choose neutral ground. Hall and Oates, and Tears For Fears. The Eagles, and Steely Dan. We both like all of those. 🙂
