Need Privacy? How About The “Otegaroom” – A Mini “Office Box” To Work From Home! “What The Friday!?!” Asks: Would You Climb In?

Who’s Ready To Climb Inside This “Office Box?”

Well, you know what day it is: “What The Friday!?!?!” – and that means, new ways to make the best of #QuarantineLife!

Yes, this is the “Otegaroom”, a tiny soundproof mini-office for your apartment!

An “Office In A Box”!

Yes, this is an office you can put in your home or apartment! You just step inside for privacy!

Of course, the investigative Reports at SoraNews24 had the story!

As SoraNews24.com reports:

“Soundproofing company Pia Living’s new ‘Otegaroom’ — that’s a compound word of “otegaru,” meaning cheap or simple, and “room” — may be the answer to your prayers, as it offers the ability to install an even tinier room inside your existing living space that comes packed with plenty of soundproofing, LED lighting and even a ventilation fan to ensure you can carry on phone calls, meetings and even private guitar jam sessions without worrying about noise pollution.”

That’s right: a well ventilated box for extra privacy while working at home!

They go on to report:

“The walls of the room contain sandwiched boards that work in tandem to keep sounds both insulated from outside noises and absorbed so that sound doesn’t leak out. Apparently, this system means that you’ll both be protected against and prevented from spreading sounds around a volume of 15 decibels. The room is also equipped with a neat little desk to sit at for when you need to use your laptop.”

Hmmm…what do you think?

The “Otegaroom” Has Special Features Too!

That’s right, it’s much more than just a box!

There are holes in the walls so you can insert electrical cords, and the whole box only weighs 50 kilograms (110 pounds) before the desk is installed!

As for the price, the “Otegaroom” can be yours for just 198,000 yen or $1,855!

Of course, making due in small spaces is nothing news…remember these Hong Kong “Micro-Apartments?”

Just how small is this? Well, it’s the size of a parking space!

  2. A slightly little bit too tiny for me. I do know people that have been using their closetst as home office’s during the pandemic..scary if you ask me. Great post!

  3. Yikes! It is definitely a solution for those who are not claustrophobic, and have the $$.

  4. wow – what a great idea – I wonder how it would feel to do work in there
and I think I would give it a try – thank for sharing this

  5. Mmm cosy! I think the soundproofing is a strong selling point, but lack of air may be an issue. You don’t want to eat cheese & onion sandwiches in there. If you happen to have an empty coffin lying around, you could position it upright and save some money.x

A bit pricer than a refrigerator box, but I would think this would be a solution for sound proofing for audiobook recording.

  7. I use a spare bedroom that is only 8X8 feet square. I thought that was too small! I can see lots of uses for this tiny portable room, but it is a hefty price! 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
