Going “Underwater Australia” – LIVE! Nature Cameras In The Ocean And A Sky-High “Eagle Cam” As Well – With Chicks!

Time To Go Underwater – LIVE!

Well, how cool is this? You can actually go underwater in Australia to watch their sea life LIVE!

“Reef Cam” is Australia’s first ever rocky-reef, live-feed, combined “under and above water” webcams!

Watching Australia’s Oceans Live!

This is really fun, especially in a #quarantinelife world, when we can’t travel…as they say:

“Check out our own reality show below, staring some of Port Phillip Bay’s coolest residents – the local flora and fauna from deep under the sea!”

As you can see, they have a massive above water camera setup, and underneath the ocean you see incredible sea life up close and all around you!

Check out the live shot!

The best part is that they also show footage from earlier, so there is always something to see, since after dark you don’t get a good shot at all of course!

TheGuardian.com had a great story about this live nature camera, reporting:

“It’s important that we showcase these amazing marine environment of southern Australia,” A spokesperson says, pointing out that viewing the underwater camera can be a little hit and miss, but the best times tend to be on a slack tide on a sunny quiet day.

The story goes on to note:

“I think it helps people connect with nature and it has a bit of a calming effect. This time of a pandemic is really challenging for people’s mental health so for people to be able to check out beautiful Port Phillip from their lounge room I think is really beneficial.”

And guess what? They not only have live cameras underwater in the ocean, they have them high up in the sky as well!

Yes, there’s a “Sea Eagle” camera set up as well!

The Guardian notes:

More than 20 metres up an ironbark tree in Sydney’s Olympic Park, more than 70,000 people from around the world have been cheering on two tiny, restless and feathery fluff balls in the shape of eagle chicks.

Pulling up the live EagleCAM from their phones and computer screens, thousands have been watching the comings and goings of a pair of white-bellied sea eagles turning up with morsels of fish to feed their newly hatched and very fluffy young.

I love this stuff, and The Guardian has more details and links to all of the live feeds as well – see them here:

We are all struggling to enjoy nature in this #quarantinelife, but I’m happy to report that the Grand Canyon has reopened!

I hiked down into the canyon once and it was spectacular – check out some videos from one of the seven wonders of the world by clicking on my story here:

  6. We have many similar setups over here. Some kestrels were nestng in a church tower in Norwich, and the nature people set up a spycam that anyone could access online. Let’s hope it makes more people think twice about pollution and nature conservancy.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  7. This is a lovely post, John. I am working with our Sydney office at the moment. I must ask them if they’ve seen the footage of the sea eagles.
