“Good day so far?”
“Today, tomorrow, it’s all the same.”
Ready for a new take on “Groundhog Day?” Well, then time to head to “Palm Springs!”
“Palm Springs” premiered on Hulu, and it’s a wildly entertaining story!
The plot has a simple tagline:
Stuck in a time loop, two wedding guests develop a budding romance while living the same day over and over again.
From that simple setup comes a comedy with surprising depth.
Here is the trailer:
Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti star as two people who meet at a wedding in Palm Springs – but nothing goes as planned – as they enter a “Groundhog Day” situation with hilariously entertaining results.
J.K. Simmons co-stars, and I don’t want to give too much away except to say the film is inventive, beautifully acted, and filled with more warmth and emotional depth than you would expect…it’s terrific!
And I’ll end with this funny trivia about the movie, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival:
“Palm Springs” holds the record for the biggest sale of a film at the Sundance Film Festival – at $17,500,000.69, beating the previous record by 69 cents!
This is the latest in a string of really good films that have premiered on streaming services:
Lauren Lapkus is hilariously profane in the Netflix comedy “The Wrong Missy” starring David Spade.

I really enjoyed Palm Springs. I love anything that Cristin Milioti is in so I watched and was very pleasantly surprised. Andy can be very annoying, but he was very good in this one. Always good to see JK, didn’t know he was in it and was a fun surprise. Loved the ending.
I also saw Missy because I like Lauren Lupkus and David Spade. Loved it! She is hilarious. Fun show. Did you see her on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? She is real.

My wife had Lauren on her show and she was adorable, charming and personable…and yes, I’m not the biggest Samberg fan, but he did really well and as for JK, always terrific! Great as always to get your insight!

I didn’t want to share that fact, but the trailer and the plot summary both say it – we watched without knowing…it’s really good, and like “Groundhog Day” there is a nice message learned from it…

Is it really different enough from the ‘Groundhog Day’ experience to appeal over here do you think, John? The trailer was amusing, but surely it has to run out of steam with that one idea? Just a thought. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, if it doesn’t look good, ,don’t watch it. But for anyone else reading this comment, it IS worth the effort – terrific script and acting, and it takes a different path than “Groundhog Day”

Glad to hear that, John. 🙂

You know how you can tell sometimes from the trailer Pete…if it doesn’t seem like your kind of film, then there are so many others to watch as well! Emma shared her ten best horror films of the last decade, and that added 4 unseen ones for me to check out!
