It’s “Pumpkin Spice” Season, and that means only one thing:
SPAM!
“What The Friday!?!?!” Yes, it’s that day when we shakes our collective heads at the wackiest things in life, like Pumpkin Spa…and folks, I have only 3 things to add:
It’s true!
It’s Real!
It’s Coming!
A publicist for Hormel Foods confirmed to NBC News that the company will indeed sell a limited edition run of Pumpkin Spice Spam online at walmart.com and spam.com on Sept. 23!
And as you can see, it will come in a size big enough for the biggest fan!
As NBC News reports:
Hormel first broached the idea two years ago in a hoax Facebook post. But this time, Hormel swears the product is real.
As the company revealed in a statement:
“True to the brand’s roots, SPAM Pumpkin Spice combines deliciousness with creativity, allowing the latest variety to be incorporated into a number of dishes, from on-trend brunch recipes to an easy, pick me-up snack.”
The rush to add “pumpkin spice” to ANYTHING took off when Starbucks introduced its Pumpkin Spice Latte in 2003.
Now, if you want a comprehensive list of ALL THINGS PUMPKIN SPICE, this is for you!
The terrific website “Binging On A Budget” shared the ultimate look at pumpkin spice, and you can see it here:

Now, this isn’t the first time I’ve shared some unique spam with you:
Remember this “spam bake?” It’s just one of many recipes I have shared using the world’s most popular canned meat!

Give me a chance to finish my pumpkin spice latte here… mmm, that was good! Now… I love Spam! Call me weird, call me old-fashioned, but I honestly do like it. It’s a mainstay to my hiking/camping gear, my winter “emergency” go to for blizzards. My favorite is sliced thin and fried with a side of eggs and toast. I’ve even tried the bacon flavored Spam… But, even I draw the line somewhere. I just can’t get past the idea of pumpkin Spam…no, nope, ain’t no way! Although, I have sliced it and put a slice of pinapple and cooked it for thanksgiving before… came out half-decent. Great writing this week, did bring a chuckle.

I’m sure there will be spam & pumpkins fans who are excited by this. Is it a bad time to say I’ve never, ever tried spam (and can’t say I’m entirely sure what it actually is or is supposed to taste like)? 😂

Well, about Spam: during WW2, “meat in a can” was sent around the world to feed troops, as well as people impacted by the war. In some places, that “meat” was favored with herbs and spice…and from that we get “Spam”, a mix of ham and spices, sold in a can to be cut into sandwiches or snacks!

When I was in Kauai in May, we went to the grocery store where you would have been in heaven walking down the aisle with over 200 variations of Spam. Not a fan myself, but I thought of you. 😉

Well, have a lot of other food nearby and lots of alcohol…but interestingly, Spam is HUGELY popular in Hawaii and other Pacific Islands…it evolved from “meat in a can” that they received from the military – and it’s a survival food they’ve taken a liking to! Thanks for commenting, as you saw I linked to your great list!

I hate all things Pumpkin spice so this just makes me gag – ha. I only eat SPAM when camping, but I guess it serves a purpose.

I posted a story about eating a “cheeseburger in a can” – a product designed for campers, much like your SPAM use…is it fine dining? NO. Is it HANDY? Yes! I’ll try anything once!

I have never hidden the fact that I am a Spam fan! My Mum used to serve it as a main meal, fried up as ‘Spam Fritters’. I like it in sandwiches too, and never think too much about what is actually in it. 🙂 I still eat it in sandwiches occasionally, as recently as May this year in fact. And Ollie loves it too!
I doubt they will try to sell ‘Pumpkin Spam’ over here. But if they do, I will try it, and let you know my verdict!
Best wishes, Pete.
