Meet The Ladies Of Stepford!
You think “The Handmaid’s Tale” is torn from today’s culture – how about this classic sci-fi film?
The 70’s were chock full of classic films that have been forgotten to time…and it’s time to do something about it! Time to celebrate this sci-fi thriller!
Kudos To Novelist Ira Levin!
Author Ira Levin wrote the original novel, and it was made into a terrific film with a great cast!
They are all just TOO perfect!
Katherine Ross stars as the newcomer to the neighborhood who realizes the term “Stepford Wife” isn’t a compliment…and something is clearly wrong with the other ladies in town…here is the film’s original trailer:
This film is a classic, and in fact, the phrase “Stepford Wife” is still used to describe subservient women…and the poster because iconic for this image:
Tina Louise from “Gilligan’s Island” is one of the local women who doesn’t seem to have any ambition – except to please her husband, any time of the day or night…
Paul Prentiss co-stars as well…she is a terrific actress who really nails the role of a lively wife who slowly changes in front of her friend’s eyes…
Bobbie Markowe: [after being stabbed] Oh Joanna! My new dress! How could you do a thing like that? Just when I was going to give you coffee! How could you do a thing like that? I thought we were friends! Just when I was going to… how could you do a thing like that… just when I was going to give you coffee! Oh Joanna… I thought we were friends… I thought we were friends… friends… coffee… how could you do a thing like that? Like that? Like that? Like that? Friends… friends…
This classic thriller was very badly remade with Nicole Kidman and Matthew Broderick…stick with the original!
Of course, Author Ira Levin wrote another cult classic as well:
Yes, he was the Author of “Rosemary’s Baby” – turned into a brilliant movie with Mia Farrow.

Enjoy your cult movie Monday!

I’ve never seen either.

Just look for the original only…they tried to make a black comedy in the remake and it’s not that at all, it’s a serious science fiction thriller

I really enjoyed that original film, and as I had also read the book, was pleased that it was a good adaptation. But I started to watch the 2004 remake, and despite the wonderful casting, I couldn’t finish it.
Best wishes, Pete.

The remake, as most are, was dreadful…thanks for the comment Pete!
