A Tiny Village Endangered By A Massive Iceberg!
Regardless of how you feel about climate change / global warming, it’s NOT a political issue, it’s an environmental one and here is the latest example!
The Washington Post has a great article about the danger to the village of Innaarsuit in Greenland – where a good friend of mine worked for months a few years ago. It’s a very isolated town, and this news could be disastrous!
As The Washington Post reports:
An 11 million-ton iceberg is parked precariously close to the tiny village of Innaarsuit — a glacial faceoff that pits 169 residents of Greenland against the biggest iceberg many have ever seen.
Their fate could be entirely dependent on the weather forecast.
If a strong enough wind blows at the right time, the berg could be dislodged from the spot where it has grounded, and float harmlessly into Baffin Bay. Crisis over.
But if Mother Nature brings enough rain, the relatively warm precipitation could further destabilize the iceberg, potentially sending a chunk of it into the ocean and creating a tsunami that could wash away part of the town.
“We are very concerned and are afraid,” Karl Petersen, chair for the local council in Innaarsuit, told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
So far, 33 people have been moved to safer places inland. Others have been encouraged to move their boats away from the iceberg.

How scary and it’s good to hear The Washington post is keeping people informed of potential environmental disasters like this…Let’s hope for a good outcome for the people of that small town.

Yes indeed, Carol – while The Washington Post has been the target of our President’s wrath, it is usually the case that those who complain loudest are just trying to distract from the truth being reported…

Thanks for your comment – here in the US, EVERYTHING is put through a badly splintered political filter…so shortsighted but we are working on ways to survive the madness and get something positive done!

Yes, I notice that. Politics and religion seem to dominate everything and allow little room for good sense to blossom …. keep the faith, all shall be well – because if it ain’t we are all of us doomed 😟
