Want To Own Your Very Own Ghost Town?
Well, if you’ve got the urge to own some of California’s ghostly history, along with $925,000 – you can do it!
The ghost town of Cerro Gordo is for sale!
This cool ghost town is located in Lone Pine, a small community in central/eatern California near the Sequoia National Park.
You Can Mine For Gold As Well!
As the website offering the property states:
“Cerro Gordo provides the rare opportunity to own your own Ghost Town and Mining Operation. For those looking to acquire a piece of American West, Cerro Gordo is for you. The townsite has 24,000 square feet of buildings remaining. including the incredibly historic hotel, the Belshaw bunkhouse, hoist house, super intendents house – nearly 22 buildings in all. The property expands over 300 acres of patented mining claims.”
Here’s a cool flyover of the town:
As the listing site states:
“The site has been extremely well protected from diggers. artifact looters and Mother Nature herself. Restoration has been undertaken on most of the buildings. and the rest are in a state of protected arrested decay. The site is historic as the first major mining camp south of the Sierra Nevada. Cerro Gordo is a privately-owned Mining Town located in the Owens Valley near Lone Pine, California. ”
I just want to buy this classic wild west saloon, open it, and serve up shots of cheap whiskey as card sharks work the poker tables….

It reminds me of theater ghost town I showcased that was also for sale – this one in Nevada, and was used for lot of films, including some John Wayne westerns:

I think this looks and sounds terrific, John. It reminds me of the movie West World staring Yul Brynner.

You buy and we’ll come visit! Maybe you could do a bed and breakfast! 😉 We took a road trip on 395 once and passed through Lone Pine. Talk about your wide open spaces. It was beautiful country and great fun. Lots of westerns were made in nearby Alabama Hills, several John Wayne movies.

If it has water, sewage, and power, then I’m in! I will serve you a nice Merlot from behind the bar, and we can sit on that balcony of the hotel, and watch the sun set. It would make a perfect film set too, Lots of space for Ollie’s walks, so that’s a bonus. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
