“A Star Is Born” Is Here – And The Critics Love it!
I was eagerly anticipating this new film, and now, with the release of the latest trailer, that has officially turned to “CAN’T WAIT”.
A much-differnt-looking Lady Gaga stars as the singer who is discovered by the older, and much more volatile country star played by Bradley Cooper…and in this new trailer, you get to hear both of them sing – and it’s great!
Here is the trailer:
The film opened today – and the box office is on fire, with a $40-million weekend predicted! That ensure Oscar noms for Best Picture, Actress, Director, Song and more…as movie buffs know, this is the fourth version of the film released.
Here is a look at the previous entries in the series, including the notorious 1976 version starring Barbra Streisand!
No spoilers John as haven’t seen either of the previous films but I enjoyed the trailer. I thought some of the shots were just sublime to reflecting the lifestyle and where each character is coming from. Romantic and tragic all at once. That last shot of them happy but him clearly leaning on her and not quite with it speaks a million words. There’s no proof here that there will be a strong plot, believable character motivations or decent dialogue. But as an evocative moody piece it is perfect and definitely whets my appetite to see the film.
Lloyd, I didn’t share any major plot points in my story, and the trailer doesn’t either, just shows how good Gaga looks in the trailer, and how well Cooper can sing – whets my appetite for a new version!
I wholeheartedly agree about the trailer and no you didn’t put any spoilers in your post. I just thought I should mention it since I’m sure a lot of people would be familiar with the story from the previous films. Gaga is such a talent and apparently Cooper wanted her. This could be good.
The stories about the problems behind the scenes of the Streisand one are fascinating – her battles with the Director and her “non-chemistry” with Kristofferson – but the end result is a really fun film! Thanks as always for the comment!
Sorry to be a ‘downer’, but does this film really need yet another remake? In my opinion, no.
Spend the money on something original, for Christ’s sake! It makes me so wild. It’s just lazy, and really depresses me, to be honest.
Best wishes, Pete.
I simply cannot WAIT for this. I adored the original (just hopping over to your post about it in a second) and this trailer has whet my already eager appetite. I have a strong feeling this is going to be a five star blue chipped solid gold diamond studded winner of a film 🙂
It has an award-winning look to it – Cooper directed as well, and Gaga is going to be an Oscar frontrunner for sure – thanks as always for the comment!
I have worked in entertainment for awhile, been to 3 Oscar shows, and covered it extensively…they love to honor films that “pull back the curtain”, especially if an unexpected Artist “puts it out there” in a raw way…this looks like that
What I love about your blog (apart from the crazy food, Japan, chic and cheerful travels of you and your wife etc etc) is that you are so obviously well versed, dare I say expert in a field that I never quite got over. Once upon a time I worked in the industry and it sticks to you somewhat. Reading your opinions, your reviews, your recommendations somehow brings back and brings present so much of what I loved about back then 🙂
Thank you so much – that is such a nice thing to say…I have been lucky to travel the world, attend award show, watch my wife win 5 Emmy Awards, and still have passion for content!
Absolutely can’t wait for this film! I love love Bradley Cooper, so weird to hear him sing though. Will be so much fun to see a differnet side to Gaga!
I am really impressed by this trailer…Cooper sounds like the world-weary country singer he is supposed to be, and Gaga looks GREAT, and when she begins to belt it out – look out!
Reblogged this on johnrieber and commented:
The reviews are in, and this “Star” is shining brightly! Huge opening weekend underway, cannot wait to see and bravo to Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper!

A great trailer will it be better than Streisand and Kristofferson of whom I am a big fan…we shall see 🙂

I said the same thing when Cecil B DeMille remade The Ten Commandments. Lazy. 🙂

It really does look incredible! I love the Judy Garland version, never seen Streisand’s so will have to change that before October!
