Amy Schumer New Film Is Here – And Controversial!

Amy Schumer is, arguably, America’s funniest female Comedian right now, but her new film is creating headlines for its storyline…

As in previous films, Schumer once again takes on the subject of physical beauty and, in “I Feel Pretty”, knocks it on its head. But it’s that storyline that is creating headlines.

First, here is the very funny trailer for “I Feel Pretty”:

The plot of “I Feel Pretty” is simple: a woman hits her head and wakes up thinking she is “pretty” – and it’s that concept, the idea of physical beauty and its value in today’s society, that is causing the controversy.

Many reviews are stating that Schumer is actually adding to the idea that beauty defines us, and that every woman fantasizes about being “beautiful”, to the point that the film adds to the problem rather than addresses…

  1. Reminds me of a “Shallow Hal” kind of movie turned on its head!

  2. Her movie sounds great in concept, but i guess people will think it has poor execution.. I hope for her that it goes well though because even if it can be controversial, we do need to talk about things like these! Great post, John 🙂

    • Thanks for your comment – what bothered me is there was so much negativity BEFORE the film was seen – I agree the topic is worthy of discussion and she is trying to do that, we will see how successful she was!

  3. I really loved Trainwrecked and found it so so funny! I like the look of ‘I feel Pretty’, I think that it will be a funny film that’s somwthing a little different. I definitely think Amy is really funny, think she has a lot of people that don’t like her which ends up with her getting a lot of hate.

  4. I was reading this thinking it sounds like a Shallow Hal type plot, (I blooming love that film) so will be interesting to see how it comes across. I will probably go to watch it as I like Amy, funny lady x

    • She is being treated a bit unfairly – since most of the controversy is about what people perceive her POV to be in the film, and she has been very vocal about what the film means to her – mew ife and I plan to see it, we like her and this backlash seems unwarranted – at this point

  5. As I said in the original, I actually find Amy’s curvy figure very attractive. The plot does sound rather like ‘Shallow Hal’ though.
    Best wishes, Pete.
