Time to celebrate the “Citizen Kane” of action movies – and the greatest Christmas movie of all!
You all know the plot: New York City Detective John McClane arrives in Los Angeles to spend Christmas with his wife. Unfortunately, a group of terrorists, led by Hans Gruber, is holding his wife and her co-workers hostage in the Nakatomi Plaza building. Only John McClane can save them….check out the holiday trailer:
As you can see from the poster, the best Christmas movie of all time was released in July!
That said, all of the action takes place on Christmas Eve – so it’s a holiday film. Here are three reasons this is the greatest holiday movie ever…

I remember seeing this in the cinema and was gripped. Rickman was such a good villain.

So many rated-R quotable lines, stellar action sequences*, a distinct “L.A.” aesthetic, and an unexpected underlying sentiment make this a holiday classic, for sure. And created its own sub-genre in the process. Great highlight for the season, John. 🙂
* and I say that because I got to witness, first-hand, one of the “Nakatomi Tower” helicopter runs while standing on the NE corner of Constellation and Avenue of the Stars in Century City.

More of a fun way to highlight the film, Cindy. Hard to say that “Love Actually”, “A Christmas Story” or “It’s A Wonderful Life” don’t knock it off…but that list of 9 greatest of all time is coming Christmas Day!
