Yes, delicious meatloaf, green beans, tater tots AND a chocolate brownie could be served in a beautiful tin plate – so you could settle down and enjoy a nice night of TV – America never looked back!
As time went on, Swanson knew they had to expand your culinary horizons, leading to “TV dinner” trips around the world!

Funny I remember liking these occasionally in high school.. especially the dessert… I can’t even imagine why they still exist today other than as a footnote to history. Now if only I was related to THAT Swanson. I might feel differently!!☺

When I was working everyone brought strange little microwaveable meals for lunch. Not me. Too many wonderful places to eat nearby! Best thing about working! 😉

I recall my Mum buying some of these (Bird’s Eye) chicken dinners in the mid 1960s. I thought they were really cool back then, something very modern and different. My Dad soon put a stop to it though, as he preferred home cooking.

Pete, many Chefs feel this was the beginning of the end of “home cooking” – EVERYTHING today is pre-packaged, pre-cooked or pre-seasoned…30 minute meals that offer no sense of tradition or love to process…I cook almost every night and love it!
