Happy 76th Birthday to The Queen Of Blaxploitation!”
She has acted in some of the most acclaimed films and Tv shows for the past 50+ years, but she will always be “the Queen Of Blaxploitation” – and that’s a huge compliment!
It was an era of films that featured empowered black lead stars, like this:

These films told stories from the black perspective, and were hugely popular…and when it came to Pam Grier, she owned the genre in part because of the wildly entertaining films she made – like this!
No, it’s not a movie about hygiene…this is something far more subversive and perverse: it’s the legendary “women in prison” classic “Black Mama White Mama!”!
“Some jive-ass revolution don’t mean shit to me!”
That’s just a hint of the great dialogue from this exploitation classic:
I love any films that calls itself “Black Mama White Mama!” Here is the plot: a radical revolutionary teams up with a “kept” woman when they find themselves shackled together in prison…check out the trailer:
The chained sex kittens are legendary Blaxploitation star Grier and Margaret Markov – but first, a much needed shower…

Yes, the movie is FULL of shower scenes..but also great action, as the two escape and kick some ass!
This is dialogue right after the hound dogs have been stolen:
Guard #1: “How are we gonna find them now?”
Guard #2: “Well, asshole, why don’t you get down on all fours and we’ll follow you!”
As you can see from this international poster, they highlighted just one of the many “naked shower” scenes…because the key to the success of the “women in prison” genre was to NEVER have them free for too long – because in prison, they make you shower naked all the time!
These films were hugely popular at drive-ins and grind house theaters across America – and along with these film, Grier also owned the genre of “Blaxploitation” as well!
Grier had a string of films where she kicked lots of ass, and exuded “cool”:

I took a look at some of the biggest films of that era, like her “Coffy” and some of the other kick-ass women of the genre as well.
Read about all of her classic movies here:
And the US wasn’t the ONLY country that was obsessed with women in prison!
Yes, the Philippines also was a “hotbed” for sexploitation – and if you need proof, here’s a picture from the classic sexploitation film “Virgins From Hell!”

Happy birthday and bravo once again to Pam Grier for her incredible career!
