Todd’s “Rock Walk” Award Still Going Strong!
Just last week, I happened to be going past The Guitar Center in Hollywood, California, so I checked out their “Rock Walk” and yes, Todd’s looking good more than 28 years later!
I actually aired a story about this ceremony, and it included a great interview with Todd, where he discusses his lack of interest in making the same music over and over again…
“I just stopped writing love songs…I said, everybody’s writing love songs!”
Todd fans, you are going to LOVE THIS! That quote is from a RARE interview I have from Todd! Yes, I got to interview Todd in 1990, when he was touring – and we covered his hand print ceremony at Guitar Center’s “Rock Walk” Of Fame as well!
Here is some very rare footage of Todd getting a great award and talking to Movietime as well! First, a bit of history…
Before E! Entertainment Television, there was Movietime…those of us who worked there loved that this tiny cable network talked about entertainment 24 hours a day…
We had a segment called “Movietime News”, hosted by Terri Utley (now Terri Britt) – and since a more than a few of us were huge Todd fans, we sent cameras down to capture Todd putting down his hand prints on Guitar Center’s “Rock Walk!”
It happened on January 17, 1990 – Todd was on tour to support his brilliant “Nearly Human” album…I was News Director at Movietime, and not only did I go to Todd’s concert that night at The Wiltern Theater, I sent a crew down to cover the hand print ceremony, and ran a story on it…here you go!
Todd was playful, in great spirits, and what about those sunglasses?!?!?!?!!?!?
Todd Soars On Letterman!
The next night, Todd went on David Letterman, where he performed “The Waiting Game”, and he spoke about the hand print ceremony, in distinctly Todd-style…here is the performance and his conversation with Dave!
And thanks to Todd fan Hex, here is a better version that he posted, which includes Dave’s intro! Check it out here!
And yes, he also had some fun with his backup singers! I am so happy I found this material – sorry the quality isn’t the best, but I love Todd’s interview with us, and his “unique” glasses….and of course, he totally blew the Letterman audience away!
“The Waiting Game” was just one of the gorgeous songs from “Nearly Human”, a masterpiece that deserves so much more attention that it got…
The Majesty Of “Nearly Human!”
“The Waiting Game” is just one of an album’s worth of brilliant tracks from “Nearly Human” – read all about that incredible album by clicking on my story here:
Let me know what you think of Todd’s hand print ceremony!
