Blood: You know, Albert, sometimes you can be such a putz…

Vic: A putz? What’s a putz? It’s somethin’ bad, isn’t it? You better take that back or I’m gonna kick your fuzzy butt!

Blood: [sighs] Yep, definitely a putz.

Great dialogue made better by the fact that Blood is a talking dog!

Lucky for Blood, his partner in crime is a very young Don Johnson!

This is a great great sci-fi movie, written by one of science fiction’s greatest writers –
“A Boy And His Dog” was based on a novella by famed sci-fi writer Harlan Ellison.

A Boy And His Dog cult movie

A boy communicates telepathically with his dog as they scavenge for food and sex, and they stumble into an underground society where the old society is preserved. The daughter of one of the leaders of the community seduces and lures him below, where the citizens have become unable to reproduce because of being underground so long.

The screenplay was started by Harlan Ellison, who wrote the novella on which it is based. Ellison encountered writer’s block, and so producer Alvy Moore and L.Q. Jones took over and wrote the script. Ellison praised the film after its premiere, to the relief of Moore.

Jason Robards A Boy And His Dog

Legendary character Actor Jason Robards plays the deranged leader of the underground cult…to say more would give away the many’s strange pleasures of this cult sci-fi movie!

A Boy And His Dog Don Johnson

Tim McIntire, who performed the voice of “Blood”, sang the main title song, “A Boy and His Dog.” Check out “Blood” and a very young Don Johnson – in this “kinky tale of survival!”

  1. Does sound like you had fun watching this. Thanks for the link was a good read

  2. The only problem with the film was the controversial changing of the last line, which inflamed Ellison and gave voice to charges of misogyny, which is a bit of an overreaction, though it does lessen (dramatically) the wistful coda of the original. Otherwise, a superb adaptation.
