Want to play Doctor? Like a great medical thriller? Well, you’ve come to the right place!
Here are two great medical thrillers for you to enjoy!
I love medical thrillers because they always involve pills, scalpels and intensive care…and the best way to see this type of movie is NOT knowing much about them beforehand!
Take A Chill Pill…
Here are two great medical movies: one is a classic, under-rated thriller with Hugh Grant, and the other is the new Steven Soderbergh film that you should go see NOW!
Side Effects
Director Steven Soderberg offers up 2013’s first great movie – a smart, beautifully acted and well-crafted medical thriller!
Here is all the plot you need to know: Emily and Martin are a successful New York couple whose world unravels when a new drug prescribed by Emily’s psychiatrist – intended to treat anxiety – has unexpected side effects. Check out the trailer:
Let me say it again – THIS IS ALL YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE PLOT. Sometimes you can know TOO MUCH about a movie before you see it – this worked so well for me because I only knew the basic set-up…
“Side Effects” has a terrific cast: Jude Law, Rooney Mara, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Channing Tatum all are terrific, with lots of opportunities to act. Jude Law in particular shines with a focused, intense performance.
Rooney Mara is also outstanding – showing that her riveting performance in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” was no fluke…
We just saw “21 Jump Street” again, and Channing Tatum really deserves credit for his comic timing, but he’s also perfectly cast here as well – and Zeta-Jones is once again top notch…
If you are looking for an intelligent, adult thriller – this is the one to see – everyone involved is at the top of their game!
Now on to Mr. Hugh Grant…
“You’re a creepy person, aren’t you?”
Extreme Measures
Hugh Grant calls Gene Hackman “a creepy person” in this criminally-underseen medical thriller! Check out the trailer:
Hugh Grant is a British doctor working at a hospital in New York – his troubles begin when he starts making unwanted inquiries about the body of a man who died in his emergency room – because it has disappeared.
The trail leads him to the door of the eminent surgeon Dr Lawrence Myrick – played by the always brilliant Gene Hackman.
Hugh Grant doesn’t act in many thrillers like this one, which is also produced, but he’s really good…here he is reacting to some unwarranted charges against him…
“Okay, look. It seems that you believe that I am somebody who had a great career, would just suddenly throw it all away. It seems more believable to you than somebody in this hospital is covering up the death of a patient of mine who’s body just seemed to disappear into thin fucking air!”
There you go: a great thriller to see in theaters now, and one to download at home!
