Hold the presses! I’ve got BREAKING BACON NEWS!”
With pork costs rising, Great Britain is facing a bacon and sausage shortage as pig farmers cut back on herd size. But the problem may soon become global.
In a recent press release, the U.K.’s National Pig Association is warning that a “world shortage of pork and bacon next year is now unavoidable”:
New data shows the European Union pig herd is declining at a significant rate, and this is a trend that is being mirrored around the world. Pig farmers have been plunged into loss by high pig-feed costs, caused by the global failure of maize and soya harvests. All main European pig-producing countries report shrinking sow herds.
And if you can’t trust the UK’s National Pig Association, who can you trust?
The UK’s Financial Times reports that this past season’s droughts in North America and Russia are to blame for the spike in prices for grain crops, which are used to feed animals.
There’s only one thing to do: HOARD!
This actually isn’t a joke. As of August, nearly half of all counties in the U.S. were considered disaster areas due to extreme dryness and heat. The drought will mean higher prices in the US, and the potential for a dramatic cutback of our favorite cured, salted meat!
It’s enough to drive you mad!
Soon we could be so devoid of bacon that we will have to stop ALL outside activities with it, including arts and crafts like this:

Any serious Star Wars fan knows that “WALKERS” are vehicles from the Star Wars universe that traverse the landscape on mechanical legs. They are used by the Old Republic and the Galactic Empire for ground assault or transport.
But Nick Hamon wanted more. He wanted his WALKER IN BACON.
Well, Nick Hamon is the name on the picture I found above – just entered Star Wars Bacon and up it popped. The person pictured could or could NOT be Nick Hamon. But what you see next – without the Nick Hamon question hanging over it IS A BACON STAR WARS WALKER….

For a limited-time, KFC Japan is offering an homage to the chain’s southern roots and the brand’s founder with the Colonel’s Bacon Potato Fritters.
The mashed potatoes are mixed with bits of bacon, herbs, and sour cream before being battered and fried.
The price on these is 170 yen each (~$2.17 U.S.).
