Ale To The Chief!
I love this story! The President brews beer in the White House, and now you can make it yourself!
WHITE HOUSE ALE!
After first being a bit reluctant to showcase this effort, The White House has now jumped onboard – here is what they posted about the effort:
“Inspired by home brewers from across the country, last year President Obama bought a home brewing kit for the kitchen. After the few first drafts we landed on some great recipes that came from a local brew shop. We received some tips from a couple of home brewers who work in the White House who helped us amend it and make it our own. To be honest, we were surprised that the beer turned out so well since none of us had brewed beer before.
As far as we know the White House Honey Brown Ale is the first alcohol brewed or distilled on the White House grounds. George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson made wine but there’s no evidence that any beer has been brewed in the White House.”
The coolest part of this, in my opinion, is this terrific video that they just released, explaining the thinking behind the beer and the process for making it:
And here are the recipes as released by The White House!
That’s the Honey Ale, and here now is the Honey Porter:
The White House Rules!
Here is the website that gives out the recipes for both the Honey Ale AND Honey Porter beers…great job, guys!!!

And to celebrate this White House beer, I wanted to share some classic beer commercials – roll ’em!
The Beer Chase Is On!
This is just a great ad – a chase sequence with no cars, just beer…love it! And speaking of great beer ads:
Rainer Beer Rules!
I grew up in Seattle, where Rainier beer was an iconic brand that was made right in downtown Seattle…that is an era long gone, but when they were great, they were GREAT. Look at these two examples of great advertising!
Talk About “Taking The Mickey!” The Running Of The Wild Rainiers!
Yes, Rainier beer got Mickey Rooney to be in an ad, a very funny riff on hunting wild animals!
These were so successful there was a sequel!
The Famous Motorcycle Ad!
Perhaps nothing is more iconic to me than this classic Rainier ad, a beautiful spot that has nothing to do with beer at all!
Congratulations to President Obama for his beer, and congrats to the folks at Rainier Beer for some terrific, iconic beer ads!
