I know I left “Contagion” off of the list of best Steven Soderbergh films, but it was an oversight. “Contagion” is one of the best films of the year and an important, timely thriller.
“Contagion” is centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak.
We read about bird flu in Asia, and we panic when a couple of people are exposed here in the US. Then it goes away and we forget all about it…these sorts of virus outbreaks don’t tend to happen here, so we forget about them…until the outbreak happens.
Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Laurence Fishburne and Jude Law star in this gripping thriller about a virus that could destroy the world as we know it. And it is torn from today’s headlines…
Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Ellis Cheever: “Someone doesn’t have to weaponize the bird flu.The birds are doing that.”
Gwyneth Paltrow has a small but intrumental part as well…what makes this work so well is that you can see the reality of how a bird flu virus can spread across the globe, and how difficult it is to stop it.
This is a smart, focused thriller with terrific acting as usual for a Soderbergh film.
The two-disc Blu-Ray includes the following added features:
– Contagion: How A Virus Changes The World
– The Reality of Contagion
– The Contagion Detectives
So there, I know I missed more as well, but let’s keep the conversation going!
