Welcome To New York’s Blizzard 2026!
Many of you have read that New York and other parts of northeast US were slammed by a massive blizzard last night and today!

I took this photo from Central Park an hour ago.
As I share this, a blizzard warning is in effect for all five boroughs of New York City, Long Island, and much of NJ, as a classic nor’easter wallops our area with strong winds and heavy snow.
It started with a whimper on Sunday – I actually shared a video of how Sesame Street’s iconic Elmo character watched the snow from the show’s office across from us – with a cameo at the end from Big Bird as well:
Here is our view of Lincoln Center and you can see our neighbor’s outdoor terrace is clear:
That was then…this is now:

Two Feet Of Snow Covers New York City!
This is what we woke up to – after a slow start, the 50 mile per hour winds kicked in and the just kept falling…this is what I captured last night before we went to bed:
And for those cars still out on the street:

We woke up to find that all schools are closed, and there is a travel ban for cars and subways…no one is allowed to drive in the city – which you can’t do because the streets are pure white anyway…

So I headed across the street to Central Park to have some fun in the snow!
I spent about 45 minutes int he snow, and I wasn’t alone…it’s peaceful and beautiful out right now, and only about 30 degrees so not too cold:

As I said, I wasn’t alone – New Yorkers head to the park with sleds to have some fun in the snow!

Car owners woke up to this – their cars were literally buried in the snow…but this guy is going to try and get out anyway!
It will take several days for the city to get back to normal, but New Yorkers are resilient, so let’s just enjoy the unique photos and videos I got to take, like this one that shows you just how much snow has fallen:

While I had fun in the snow, my wife Alex on the left and her co-worker Kareen headed in to work – they are scheduled to film their TV show today!
This is just another reason to love the city – and want to see some video of the arches in Central Park?
Here’s an in-depth look at Central Park’s iconic archways!
And I look forward to spring, when the Turtles take over the lake inside the park again…here’s some video showing what voracious eaters they are!

A big, big ‘thank you’ for all these wonderful snow photos – of course your weather has been on all our news, but nowhere as well shown or described. It truly is an incredible ‘winter wonderland’ and it is great to see people truly enjoying themselves in Central Park . . . but much must be impossible to do and there will be an awful lot of slush and mess when all of this melts! I must say your appartment is in a wonderful place – just offside of the main street but with a view from just the right height – and now you say you live opposite Elmo as well . . . hmm 🙂 !

Yes, Elmo and friends are literally across the street! As for the slush, it will stay frozen for two days then it will indeed because slushy…sometimes a bigger pain than just being snow! Thanks for the comment!

it’s a beautiful and crazy one, and I know it impacts everything. when you get hit this hard and fact with this much snow it takes a while to get through it but from experience, people tend to pitch in and bond together. stay warm, safe, eat, sleep and go out when you have to and help when you can.

The city celebrates these veins and do indeed come together – one of the things I love about New York!

Robbie, it just kept getting windier and snowier as the day and night went on…my wife is actually filming this afternoon but they had to slide their schedule back 6 hours so the storm could leave! Thanks for the note – hope all is well!

Thank you! Sadly it never fell softly to the ground – it was a hard, driving snow pellet situation due to the high winds…but this morning it looked beautiful!

Your snowstorm was reported here on the BBC News, John. Thanks for taking us into the heart of the ‘action’! (12C/+54F here, and sunny earlier!)
Best wishes, Pete.

I love it, a real winter wonderland viewed from my warm desk top computer. I would love to be out in it for a little while… you are not wearing a hat! I also love the silence snow brings.
