RIP Rob and Michelle Reiner…
Absolutely devastating news….acclaimed Actor and Director Rob Reiner and his wife were murdered yesterday, and there is a possible tragic family connection…as reported by The Daily Beast:
The troubled son of slain director Rob Reiner is being quizzed by cops over the death, according to People magazine.
Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele, 68, were murdered at their Los Angeles homeon Sunday, a source confirmed to the Daily Beast. People reported that the Los Angeles Police Department said their son Nick, 32, is alive and being questioned, but is not under arrest. In fact, at the time of writing, no one has been arrested.

An update: on Monday, police confirmed that the son has been arrested in connection with the murders….
On Sunday, Dec. 14, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was called to the home at around 3:30 p.m. local time to provide medical aid, and upon arrival, they found a man and a woman dead, the LAFD confirms to PEOPLE.

In 2016, Reiner and his son co-wrote the film “Being Charlie”, the story of a family dealing with a son who has serious addiction problems. It was known to be based on the issues that Nick struggled with, and how it impacted his relationship with his parents Rob and Michelle.
Early reports said that Nick killed his parents, but police have not confirmed this and only have stated that he is being questioned.
This is shocking and such sad news.
Reiner first rose to fame with his breakout role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on Norman Lear’s pioneering CBS sitcom All in the Family, which ran for nine seasons throughout the better part of the ’70s.
His most popular film for man y was this one:

Here is a look at “When Harry Met Sally”, an absolute classic:
I first fell in love with his work when he made one of the best “mockumentaries” of all time…
“Hello, Cleveland!”
One of the most iconic lines in movie comedy history – as the Band Spinal Tap gets lost in the bowels of Cleveland’s music arena and can’t find the stage…
And of course, there’s also this, when a band member admits they will never know what killed their drummer, who drowned in someone else’s vomit:
Nigel Tufnel: “You can’t really dust for vomit.”
“This Is Spinal Tap!”
Arguably one of the funniest movies ever made, this is also the first and funniest “mockumentary” ever made, directed by Reiner.
You know the plot: in 1982, legendary British heavy metal band Spinal Tap attempt an American comeback tour accompanied by a fan who is also a film-maker. The resulting documentary, interspersed with powerful performances of Tap’s pivotal music and profound lyrics, candidly follows a rock group heading towards crisis, culminating in the infamous affair of the eighteen-inch-high Stonehenge stage prop…here is the trailer for this comedic masterpiece:
Harry Shearer, Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, and Michael McKean were given $10,000 to write a script for Spinal Tap. A 20-minute version of the film was made with the money to better demonstrate the improvisation they had in mind. Several scenes from this demo are in the final movie, and the entire effort is included on various special editions of the film…
“But These Go To Eleven!”
Most of the dialogue was improvised – kudos to the entire “Tap” team of Harry Shearer, Michael McKean and Christopher Guest – but this is now one of the most quoted film lines in modern movie history…
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and…
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it’s louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it’s one louder, isn’t it? It’s not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You’re on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you’re on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don’t know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don’t you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
The entire team regrouped this year for a sequel…here’s a look at the first film and the hilariously bad album covers it spawned…
Among the other films directed by Reiiner was this classic:
A classic film that was written by a Hollywood legend – first as a novel!
See the story of “The Princess Bride” here:
Reiner’s extensive directing credits included Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture), and The American President.

Horrible tragedy. Equally upsetting is seeing people try to politicize such a sad event. I’ve also had a couple of family members who had to deal with a child struggling with drugs, and sadly, there comes a time when you have to accept that some people can’t be saved.

It was a horrible tragedy indeed and there is NOTHING bout it that should be political…we have lost so much of our empathy and sympathy for others and it’s so wrong…thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

The names didn’t mean anything to me until the tributes on our TV and radio talked about his films. The Princess Bride is my daughter’s favourite film of all time.

I’m wondering how the rest of the family can process this and pick up the pieces.

Heartbreaking. I remember “Being Charlie” from about ten years ago since my friend was going through the same experiences with her son. I appreciated that he tried going through the movie process with Nick in the hopes of leading to healing in the family.

I read on the BBC website last night that the police were ‘not looking for anyone in connection with the crime’. So at first I thought it might be murder/suicide. No doubt there will be developments in the case soon.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, they have confirmed conversations with the son, and early quotes foremothers pointed to him, but nothing else yet….there is NO WAY it was a murder/suicide as that wasn’t who they were as a couple…a tragedy regardless….
