The Beauty Of Nightfall In Venice!
I have posted about how beautiful Venice is, but now I want to focus on a city that becomes even more magical as night falls, like it is doing here on the “bridge of sighs…”

As lights are turned on, the last Gondoliers take people into the canals for a different perspective on the classic buildings around them:

Literally, everywhere you turn there is a new photo op:

As darkness settles in, things that were beautiful in sunlight become even more fascinating after dark….

Alex and I wandered through Venice one night – starting at the most popular attraction in the city:

Welcome To San Marco Square For A Night Full Of Music!
Yes, as night falls in Venice, San Marco Square stays alive with crowds of people gathering in the courtyard to listening to live music being performed in the cafes that ring the square!

Several restaurants have seating in the courtyard, where you pay a small fee and order drinks, while music is performed for you live – take a look:

Venice is frequently underwater due to very high tides…when we were there, there was a sheen of water an inch deep in many parts of San Marco Square:

The lower lights are actually a reflection of the lights on the building…and look at this reflection of the church:

After the performance, we wandered through some parts of Venice that weren’t for tourists – small alleyways that were desolate and almost eerie:

No matter how many side streets you wander, all roads lead back to the Rialto Bridge, where night gives you a whole new view of Venice:

By the time we got back to our hotel, the city has begun to slow down, so we sat at our bar and had one last drink, with this view of the Grand Canal…

Our trip to Venice was really memorable for so many reasons, like the Water Taxis that showcase the Grand Canal when you are on them:
I love these rides! One day we took a Water Taxi to Murano to see Artisans there create works of art out of glass:

It’s so cool to see up close – take a look:
Click here to see video of a Stallion created from a blob of molten glass in two minutes!
But is this classic form of artistic craftsmanship at risk of disappearing forever?
See my sobering report here:
One of the most entertaining things about Venice is arriving there, especially when you do it by boat!

I have been lucky enough to have visited Venice several times. Beautiful city which I can never get enough of. Last time there was off-season and much easier to move around.
I have read that the Cruise ships are no longer stopping in Venice – hope it’s true! The damage they do is criminal.
Fingers crossed I will visit again for longer.
Mary :))

Thank you for that comment! When we were there last, three of them came into the harbor and were literally taller than any of the buildings…they disgorge thousands of people who stomp around, dont support any businesses but clog the streets, then leave a mess behind…I know they were being heavily charged to come in so perhaps they chose to avoid it for now…thanks for the comment!

Thank you for my current smile – have been lucky to have stayed in Venice some half-dozen times, always at the same hotel – the Gritti Palace, just a little more towards St Mark’s Square than you have portrayed on your last photo. Magical in ‘those days’ – I wonder how I would feel now! And Murano and Burano both are familiar – actually one of the most embarrassing times ever in my travel occurred when we wanted to go there in a 4-some with the kids and asked our gondolier to take us!!! He did and suffered . . . how were we to know the distance the first time around! Actually bought a tremendously designed huge bowl which had just won a European top art prize – we had to get Italian governmental permission to have it sent to Australia!

Thank you for sharing those memories! I can’t believe the Gondolier took on that journey, even by motor boat it takes 15-20 minutes! Love that you have such a unique piece!

You will love it! They are tackling over-crowding from tourists, but you are the type who will research the best way to visit and you will love it!

It is a joyful city that has been overrun by tourists…we have been there twice and both times the city was under a few inches of water in certain places…they are fighting back but we will see…still, magical in every way
