“Juror #2” Has Been Re-Born! The Mystery Of Clint Eastwood’s “Secret” Movie Solved!

Where Is Clint Eastwood’s New Movie?

Wait, you didn’t know there WAS a new Clint Eastwood film? That’s because the studio behind it has buried it!

I shared this story a month ago, and will give you more details, but first: a very happy ending!

After dumping the film on just 50 movies screens in America with no advertising a month ago, the film has just kept playing and playing and playing – and now, this update from acclaimed Director Whit Stallman on Twitter:

The film is called “Juror #2”, and it’s 94 year old Eastwood’s 40th film as a Director!

So where was it? Nowhere! You see, Warner Bros. Discovery gave it a “secret” opening in just 50 screen release in a few cities in the US, with no advertising at all! One of cinema’s most acclaimed filmmakers and his movie were BURIED.

But now, it appears the films keeps growing and growing, as fans have found it anyway thanks to people like Stillman! I will share of his incredible work in a moment.

Here is the trailer for “Juror #2”, which as you can see must be watched on YouTube – just click to go there:

In the “new world order” of Hollywood, where films are often put on streaming services immediately, dumping this film this way was a big mystery – since no one at the studio explained what is going on!

Here’s the story according to various online entertainment news sites:

“Juror #2” was originally conceived as a streaming release, as first reported by Puck and confirmed by a source. The studio shifted to theatrical after screening the film, which was produced on a budget in the mid-$30 million range. While next week’s limited release will serve as an awards-qualifying run, sources tell Variety that the film is not being perceived as a major Oscar player internally at Warner Bros. Notably, “Juror #2” isn’t featured on the company’s FYC 2024 webpage.

“FYC” stands for “for your consideration” – which would encourage voters to give the film Oscar nominations…remember, two films Eastwood directed have won Best Picture Of The Year!

Both films were also massive box office hits.

In fact, Eastwood was known for his ability to make his films very economically, and always coming in under budget. Among his big hits were “The Bridges Of Madison County”, the “Dirty Harry” films, and so many others.

This story has puzzled many entertainment outlets. As one noted:

“The hush-hush rollout for “Juror #2” remains a peculiar approach for a filmmaker who still has commercial appeal. “American Sniper” was the highest-grossing domestic release of 2014.

And speaking of his continued box office appeal:

Two of Eastwood’s most recent films, the critically acclaimed “Sully” and “The Mule,” both earned more than $100 million in North America alone!

Eastwood has delivered massive critical and commercial box office hits for the studio for decades:

But one story that has circulated says that new WBD head David Zazlov was unhappy with the box office for Eastwood’s last film, “Cry Macho”, which to be fair was released in the midst of the pandemic…he is quoted as saying about Eastwood: “it’s not show friends, it’s show business.”

There are so many stories circulating now about the disrespect being shown the Actor/Director…again, a sad story and he deserves better…if you want to celebrate his work, here is a look at some of his greatest films:

One year in particular stood out for Eastwood:

In 1971, Eastwood released three films, and they are all classic! See an closeup look at all of those films here:

By the way, he shot scenes for “Misty” in this iconic restaurant:

And so we ate there, and drank in Clint’s bar seat too!

See the food and behind the scenes stories here:

So now, America will get to see the film and bravo for that! A Hollywood Happy Ending!

As for Director Whit Stallman, he is one of our greatest filmmakers- he burst onto the scene in 1990 with this gem:

“Metropolitan” is the story of wealthy New York teens who navigate the world of social balls – and one newcomer who turns out to be charming – but poor!

Here is the trailer:

Still has directed such great movies as “Barcelona”, which he noted was also “hidden” by Warner Brothers in the 90’s. Look for “The Last Days Of Disco” and in particular this great Stillman film:

“Damsels In Distress” starred Greta Gerwig, who would go on to direct “Barbie!”

I will sharing a deep dive into all of Stillman’s films soon, but thanks to him for helping bring “Juror #2” alive for movie lovers!

  1. This looks really interesting. The trailer has a couple of ‘uh oh!’ moments that make me identify with multiple principals. Would not have been aware without your post, John Reiber, thank you. Also, coincidentally, I came upon Whit Stillman when he was writing/editing for a couple of periodicals in the 1980s. Saw Barcelona and Metropolitan, and it seemed they went almost straight-to-video. He told stories that were kind of timeless, young people wanting to love-and-be-loved in return, relocating, trying to connect with others, trying to do the right thing. One of my favorite scenes in Barcelona involved a young military man with an eye patch, who showed up to gift a bottle of scotch. The receiving party says, “this has been opened. And is just 3/4 full.” The young officer replies, “yes! Just as the one I borrowed!” I saw myself in that moment, both sides, and I was doing the “young person’s math.”:-) Also, I liked ‘Cry Macho’ and avoided it because of the title. But glad I saw it. Thanks again.

  2. Thanks for the follow-up. Shame on the movie studio. It reminds me of education being run by people who have never been in a classroom.

    • Pete, they actually put it on my awards consideration site so we will watch it at home this weekend and I will let you know…it’s such a shame they treated him so poorly…that company is in a shambles and just lost more than $300 million on the new “Joker” bomb…
