Celebrate Halloween By Taking This “Road To Hell!”
Considering it’s “Shocktober”, I figure it’s the perfect time to tackle this wild wild wild road!

Doesn’t that entrance look like a large black crow – or even a rat-like creature daring you to enter its lair! It gets even creepier when you are inside:

This is one of the coolest, if creepiest caves I’ve ever seen, so let’s go in further, where it really takes on a terrifying look!

Here’s the official description of this unique underworld world:
Travel to Carlsbad Caverns National Park in southern New Mexico and you’ll arrive at a landscape with more than 100 caves, have the opportunity to witness thousands of bats take flight into the Chihuahuan Desert, marvel at the beauty of ancient sea ledges and acid-dissolved limestone, and walk down what’s been called “the road to hell.”

You descend a 1.25 mile natural entrance into the cave and then are able to walk over a mile underground. Most of the route is lit by the equivalent of candles.

Here’s another amazing part of the underground world:
The King’s Palace tour, a 1.5-hour ranger-guided tour through four highly decorated chambers will take you into the deepest portion of the cavern open to the public, 830 feet (253 m) beneath the desert surface.
Wow, I would love to see this!

America is a very big country, so it takes some advance planning to head to these amazing attractions, but I plan to do that…and maybe I’d do this too:

Would you take a ride down the “swallow hole?”
Check out some wide video here!
And if you want to head to Central Asia, make sure to stop by the “gates of hell!

This is real – and really really wild!

Hi John, this looks like an incredible cave system to visit. I like caves and have visted several interesting ones in New Zealand, South Africa and Europe.

I would love to go into the cavern. Think what it must have been like for the first people who discovered it and had the bravery to enter. The swallow hole? Nope!

Agree on both counts! I would NEVER do the swallow hole!

Truly spectacular. One of the few places in America that I haven’t visited and still want to.

We visited Carlsbad Caverns years ago and found it fascinating. I believe we took the elevator down, so I just checked the website to confirm my memories. Yes, there is one, but it’s closed for repairs! Can you imagine being stuck in it?? Yikes. Next time (if there is one) I’ll walk down!
