Who’s Taking Home This Guy?
Hollywood’s biggest night is here – when Academy Award statues will be handed out to the people who worked on the most acclaimed motion pictures of 2023!
In one of the most “locked” years in a decade, it is widely assumed that “Oppenheimer” will sweep the awards tonight – but there are always upsets and surprises…here is a link to the entire list of all nominees in all categories:
Lisa Marie Bowman has a terrific blog called “Through The Shattered Lens”, and she laid out her choices for the top prizes:
Best Picture: Oppenheimer
Best Director: Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer
Best Actress: Lily Gladstone, Killers of the Flower Moon
Best Actor: Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer
Best Supporting Actress: Da’Vine Joy Randolph, The Holdovers
Best Supporting Actor: Robert Downey, Jr., Oppenheimer
Best Adapted Screenplay: Barbie
Best Original Screenplay: Past Lives
She goes on to call every single category and it’s a fun read – click here for her take on tonight:
I am pretty much in lock step with her – EXCEPT in the two top acting categories:
Emma Stone’s performance in “Poor Things” is SO revelatory that I think she could win for Best Actress – and as for Best Actor:
While Cillian Murphy is the favorite for “Oppenheimer”, I wouldn’t be shocked if Paul Giamatti won – those are the two categories where I think we COULD see a difference from Lisa’s choices – but no matter what, all are deserving!
Lisa Marie’s blog is always insightful and fun. Read her really terrific post today about the awards themselves, by clicking on her story here:

I’m guessing that yes, Oppenheimer will take more than a few awards, and I’m still rooting for the holdovers and past lives for a win or two – love the oscars

Hi John, it is always interesting to see how the Oscar’s go. It’s not always exactly as most people think, is it?

It will win best picture and it is a big, bold film but boy is it long!

Oh, I’d better take a cushion then!

I haven’t watched the ceremony in years. Not least because of the time difference here. But it has become more or less a repeat of the Golden Globes and Baftas, so to see some shocks and upsets would be a nice change.
Best wishes, Pete.
