The Spectacular “Green” Beauty Of New York’s Central Park!
First and foremost, bravo to “Mingomatic”, who posted this image on their Instagram page…please go and follow their incredible photography!
Note the smaller lake near the top of the photo – that is, in fact “The Lake”, where Bethesda Fountain and The Boathouse are…
Magical, right? Both of these photos struck a chord with me because, you will notice just how green the water looks….and last week, when New York experienced a massive storm, I got to see up close just how “green” the lake really is!
Here’s Bethesda fountain on a sunny day…there’s a small underpass which you can see and here’s what it looked like after that storm…
As you can see, some standing water here and there…and as I walked closer to the lake, I noticed pools of water that looked like this:
A “Green Lake” Indeed!
Look at how green the water is – and where did it come from? The lake!
Here’s video of me following the “green” trail!
I found this fascinating. “The lake” was man-made, and the green tint comes from algae in the water…however, this is also where I have shared this amazing sight:
Turtles in the lake come to the steps of Bethesda fountain, and here’s a really fun video of them eating some snacks left for them:
The Turtles are really fascinating and you can see more of my “turtle fascination” by clicking on my story here:
This is just one of the many magical sights in this incredible park:
Alex and I were amazed by the proliferation of “skinny skyscrapers” that rise high above the park…see more on them here:
Oh, did you know that Central Park has its own castle?
Well, you know the answer: of course it does!
Here’s more information about this unique structure embedded in the park:

And seems like that green lake is only visible when you’re lucky(or unlucky for residents in NY)😁

Yes, you will notice a green tint to the lake on most days but never thought it was SO green! Thanks for the comment!

Lots of great information, John. I was pleased I had your observations to drawn on when I met some Americans during our last game viewing trip.

I hope they were fun and polite – sometimes certain Americans can come off a bit too strong!

You captured the green water very well, John. I just hope that the disturbed algae doesn’t affect the wild animals and birds that depend on the lake.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, they keep an eye on it and replenish fresh water to maintain a safe balance…the ducks, geese and herons who love to float in it don’t seem to have an issue, and the turtles seem to love it!

Pleased to hear that, John.
Best wishes, Pete.

I loved Central Park when I visited NYC. The turtles are so cute and that green water makes me think of St. Patrick’s day.
