Kelly Clarkson Hits The Big Apple! Season 5 Of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” Premieres Today! Here’s a Look!

Celebrating The Season 5 Premiere Of “The Kelly Clarkson Show!”

Today’s the day! Season five of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” premieres from their new home at the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City!

In an interview with The Daily Beast’s Obsessed before the taping, Clarkson says the choice to kick off the season with her new song “I Won’t Give Up” – a poignant and, she hopes, powerful one. “There’s this new, fresh start,” she says. It’s a new season in a new city for a show that had its first season interrupted by a pandemic. Its entire aesthetic and schedule had to be reconfigured to adapt, with Clarkson at one point even hosting remotely from her ranch in Montana. Season 5’s premiere is occurring after a writer’s strike that shut down the industry, which “we as a show supported,” Clarkson says. “From Season 1, we have not had a normal season. It’s been a really weird ride, and we don’t give up.”

The first week of season five is slated to feature a number of famous faces, including Seth Meyers, Alanis Morissette, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sesame Street‘s Elmo and Oscar the Grouch, Billy Porter, Bowen Yang and more. And yes, Kellyoke will be coming back too, with Clarkson set to perform Patti LaBelle’s “New Attitude,” Joan Jett & The Blackhearts’ “Crimson and Clover,” Bowling for Soup’s “1985” and her own hit, “Stronger.”

Here’s a sneak peak of the opening music video and more from New York!

The move to New York is an exciting new chapter for the show, which has faced unique challenges from the very beginning.

“When we started we ran into the impeachment trial that was preempting us, and then we went into a global pandemic and became a COVID production,” Executive Producer and Showrunner Alex Duda tells Obsessed. “And then Kelly went through a divorce. And then there was the writer’s strike. We just keep pivoting.”

Bravo to the entire show team – go get ’em!

  2. John, I loved, LOVED this post! I have no doubt this will be another great season for Kelly. I was there, two years ago, and the experience and people on the show are remarkable. Extraordinary might be a better word. Kind might be the best word. They’re the real deal, and no one forgets that. I’m so excited for Kelly in NYC! Okay, the clip of the Rainbow Room brings to mind a funny story (well, not so funny). When I was in college in DC (the kid from West Virginia), I took the train to Grand Central Station and walked from there to Central Park and back. My English Professor said, “Jennie, you have to go to the Rainbow Room!” So, I did. When I arrived, I was told I wasn’t allowed because I was unescorted. Really. That was humiliating, everyone was staring at me. Thank goodness times have changed.
