Is This America’s Most Dangerous Hike? I Found New Video Of Our Hike To Angel’s Landing!

Is This America’s Most Dangerous Hike?

Welcome to Zion National Park…in the photo above, that’s Alex pointing to the top of Angel’s Landing – a notoriously difficult, 1,700+ feet hike – just look at some of those shots!

I shared this story a few years ago, but just discovered a bit of video I shot of the people coming back down from the very top – and it shows clearly how you MUST hang on to a chain embedded in the rock so you don’t fall!

Here is the video:

I shared the entire story of the hike, including information about how dangerous this has been in the past, what you have to navigate to get to the top, and more videos too!

You can see it all by clicking here:

I will say that this was one of the most exciting, terrifying and satisfying hikes I’ve ever done, and the incredible beauty of the park all around you is worth the effort!

We did this hike just one day after we hiked in the Virgin River at the place called “The Narrows”:

Yes, miles of this hike are through the fast-moving river, and it leads you into canyons that are spectacular!

  1. It’s been many years since I’ve been to Zion and need to visit again. It is so gorgeous! But I’ll need to keep any hiking closer to the ground.

Much respect for you and your wife for doing this hike. Not a time when you want to have an earthquake.

  4. Actually, I hope you post this each year. It is spectacular! The new video shows how dangerous it is. Thank you, John.

  5. Dangerous enough for me not to do it at the age of 71, John. But 20 years ago, I would have tried it with you. Maybe even 10 years ago. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.

  6. Hi John, I remember your previous post about this hike. It is not something I would do, but I am most admiring of you too.

  9. Beautiful! Way to go, both of you! My son, terrified of heights, conquered this hike. What a feat!

    • In the link to the original story, I explain that I stopped about 150 feet short….at Angel’s Peak. I was carrying our backpack and admitted it made me a bit unsteady, and with the tightness of the ledge and other people coming down I didn’t feel steady enough…but my wife made it all the way up! Thanks for reading, bravo to your son!

      • Yes!! My son’s father-in-law’s encouragement was the only way Jarrod made it! He had stopped to. BUT, just being there is the best isn’t it? It’s good to “see” you and read! Thank you!
