WOW! The “Jersey Devil Coaster” Is Here! Ride The World’s Longest “Scream Machine!” I’ve Got Video!

Hell, Upside Down!

That’s not only the tagline for the classic 70’s disaster film “The Poseidon Adventure”, it also sums up this wild new ride – thanks to New Jersey!

As reported on Newser:

“Six Flags Great Adventure has a devilish desire to draw people out of their homes with what it claims is the fastest, tallest and longest single rail coaster in the world. The Jersey Devil Coaster, which opened at the New Jersey park on Sunday, immediately brings riders to the top of a 130-foot peak, where they can take in a view of the park and the surrounding countryside, only to send them speeding down a near-vertical, 87-degree drop!”

Check out this video!

WOW!

Up to 12 riders seated in single file hit a maximum speed of 58mph over 3,000 feet of track. They’re also flipped upside down three times!

The coaster gets its name from the legend of a devil born to a woman on a stormy night in the Pine Barrens in 1735. “We’ll immerse riders in this iconic piece of New Jersey history on our monstrous, new scream machine,” Great Adventure President John Winkler told the press.

Who’s up for a ride?

As for me, I learned that New Jersey is NOT the place to go on rides like this one:

If you haven’t seen the incredible documentary “Class Action Park”, you have no idea what sorts of wild and dangerous rides were built!

With so much of the world beginning to reopen again, you will see a lot of wild and wacky attempts to get us back to the theme parks…and rides like this are the way to do it!

How about a “foam filled” coaster ride – in water?

It’s wild and it’s real, and you can see video here!

  1. I would have loved the idea of this ride 20 years ago, John. I think I’ve become a bit of an ‘old lady’ about rides now.

  2. I’d say it would be completely terrifying! 😉 And aren’t you the one that got stuck once on a roller coaster? I’d hate to see this one stop at 130 feet! Other than that, looks like fun!! 🙂

  3. Yikes! Watch, yes. Ride, no.

  4. Even the video was too much for me. I have never been brave enough for rides like those. And I can’t help thinking there’s a disaster waiting to happen!
