I am a student of political history, and recent protest marches, and the reaction of the new administration, remind me of an era of political activism surrounding the Vietnam War in the late 60’s and early 70’s. One of the most disturbing photos in modern political history resonates even more today…
“Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We’re finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.”
The “Kent State Massacre”:
It was a shocking headline: four college students gunned down by the National Guard during an anti-war protest at Kent State University in Ohio in 1970.
As wikipedia states:

A truly revolutionary time – and so important to teach it, because “these kids nowadays” need to realize that protesting is a rich part of our history, but has many dark sides as well….thanks for the note!

I agree. I spend a lot of time on the 60s. There’s so much happening what with Civil Rights, assassinations, Cold War, JFK and LBJ and the Counter Culture. –A lot of great songs came out of the decade!

As I said last year, I was 18 at the time, so well remember the widespread coverage on the TV news.
It was shocking to see that happening in America, certainly.

Thanks for the comment, Pete…I was too young to understand this at the time, but in an era of protests and upheaval, it’s always important to remember the past….which we are not too good at here in the US!
