It’s a BAD MOVIE SATURDAY…
“You Can’t Stop Bruce Jenner!”
Forget the controversy about Caitlyn Jenner: what was Bruce Jenner thinking when he starred in a movie with The Village People?!?!?!?
Hello Boys! Caitlyn Has Arrived!
With all of the Caitlyn Jenner controversy continuing to swirl around us, let’s go back to a time when Bruce Jenner swirled around for an entirely different reason – he was partnered up with The Village People – and Steve Guttenberg!!
Can’t Stop The Music!
As the poster says “The Musical Event Of The 80’s”!
Here’s the idea the flamboyant Producer Allan Carr had. Let’s capture this “disco craze” by doing a big budget musical extravaganza starring Steve Guttenberg, the Village People and Bruce Jenner!
First, check out the trailer!

I saw this during a particularly bad series of screenings (including “Gilda Live”, “Roadie”, “Up the Academy”, “Simon” and “Where the Buffalo Roam”) that almost made me want to give up movies. That anyone would entrust a large budget musical of any kind (or a large budget anything, for that matter) to someone primarily known for hawking Bounty paper towels and dusting the McMillan’s knick knacks, is a mystery that may never be answered. (And would someone please explain why the presence of Valerie Perrine should be wasted in a gay musical?) But thanks for the stroll down memory lane. I just hope the nightmares don’t start again….

I included “Up The Academy” in my list of “films with a U” because it must be experienced to be suffered through! And I love Bill Murray but talk about the worst way to tell the story of Hunter S. Thompson, but “Where The Buffalo Roam” just got a blu-ray release!

John, it just occurred to me, and this is a terrifying thought: Do you think, with Hollywood’s proclivity toward remakes, they might eventually remake “Can’t Stop the Music” with Jenner in the Valerie Perrine role?

The most ill-conceived idea for a major motion picture ever, with the absolutely worst person to direct it – that’s what makes it so good!

I don’t know these people at all. But given the photos, I have to confess that I probably ‘would’ 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, Nancy Walker was a character Actress who NEVER should have directed a gay disco musical, but she did – it is widely considered one of the greatest cinematic mistakes in history – enjoy!
