This montage shows just some of the dozens and dozens of films from the Japanese visionary Director Takashi Miike!
Takashi Miike is a highly prolific and controversial Japanese filmmaker – having directed over ninety theatrical, video, and television productions since 1991!
The films are shocking, daring, controversial, and in many cases, classics of cinema!
Ichi The Killer!
Mike first caught my eye with this ultra-violent story of a hired Assassin…it’s a great, gory thriller – check out the trailer:
“Audition”
This horror classic was recently listed as one of the top 100 horror films of all time…it’s a slow-building masterpiece of shock…check out the trailer:
Mike also offers up perverse classic like this one:
“The Happiness Of The Katakuris!”
Yes, Miike directed a zombie musical! The imagery mocked “The Sound Of Music” as only he can – check out this film here:
Another great Miike film is “Thirteen Assassins”, a terrific period action drama…among his more recent work is this controversial shocker:
“As The Gods Will”
Mike continues to deliver provocative cinema every year, including this recent film – check out the wild trailer!
His Notorious “Jiggle” Promo!
To promote the film, a very controversial “jiggle” promo was created….with a bevy of bikini-clad women dancing suggestively for the camera…not referencing the film for several minutes!
You can check this controversial trailer out here:
Mike continues to direct films – which are now getting wider release in the US – you can find most on Amazon and streaming services as well…if you have a stomach for offbeat cinema, this is the Director for you!
Pete, he just keeps making crazy, inventive, challenging and in some cases “mind-blowing” cinema – what’s better than that? And yes, the bikini promo is classic! Thanks as always for your comments
Ichi The Killer was something else. Hard to believe it is fifteen tears ago now. One thing about the Japanese, they make inventive cinema. (And giant prawn backpacks too…)
You can't take the Scotland out of a girl... Reel entertainment reviews and more from that Darlin Husband’s Scottish, square-eyed and film-mad wife living in Finland.
I have seen quite a few of Mike’s films. I like the look of the new one though, and the bikini bounce video is a real classic!
Best wishes, Pete.
