Here’s “The Connection!”

Here is how “Indiefilm” describes this exciting new thriller: “Directed and co-written by Cédric Jimenez, THE CONNECTION was entirely shot on 35 mm and is the European flipside to William Friedkin’s “The French Connection”.

The official release also states: “A stylish, 70’s-period crime thriller inspired by true events, it tells the story of real-life Marseilles magistrate Pierre Michel (Jean Dujardin) and his relentless crusade to dismantle the most notorious drug smuggling operation in history: the French Connection. In his crosshairs is charismatic and wealthy kingpin, Gatean “Tany” Zampa (Gilles Lellouche), who runs the largest underground heroin trade into the States.”

Kudos to Drafthouse Films for picking up US distribution of this gritty thriller. As you know, “The French Connection” won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1971, and I can’t wait to see the “French” take on it!

The release of this new take on the 70’s drug war also reminded me that William Friedkin’s classic crime drama is just one of his many masterpieces!

Director William Friedkin recently published his Autobiography, where he discusses how he got some of the most amazing chase scenes in “The French Connection” – and yes, many of them were shot verite for the incredible realism you see in the film! It’s all recounted his his book:
