Happy Valentines Day!
It’s the day to tell everyone how you feel about them, so here goes:
When the legendary Napa Valley restaurant The French Laundry celebrated their 25th anniversary two years ago, they had a photo booth, and whenever I see these pics I smile, because it reminds me of how much I love hanging out with my wife Alex…
I shared this montage for our anniversary in September, but it seems to fit today as well…moments from our life together – with so many more to come!
I say that with 2020 only now in our rear-view mirror!
Our “Corn-Tine” Adventure…
Let’s be honest, on Valentine’s Day 2020, did we really think we’d have a year together – I mean, TOGETHER?
As we spent month after month quarantined together, we were lucky not to have to deal with the devastating impact of the virus as so many did.
I did, however make a really stupid buying mistake as I ordered food supplies shipped to our house, and we ended up with the wrong size canned corn…REALLY WRONG.
So what did Alex do? She turned it into a series of cooking demos, completely with lots of commentary! I loved it and it resulted in some really fun dishes like this:
You can see the recipe for “Corn Fritters” by clicking on the story here:
When Alex and I got married, the incredible band, Napata and the Kisses learned our favorite song, “Old Souls” from the film “Phantom Of The Paradise”:
The terrific Actress Jessica Harper sings it in the film, and the lyrics spoke to us:
“Old souls last forever
So we need never fear a goodbye
A kiss when i must go
No tears…
In time, we kiss…
Hello…”
That was written by the legendary Paul Williams, and here’s a little taste of it…
I shared this on Facebook the other day – for some reason my iPhone saves certain pictures every time I update my library, so I discovered I had 40+ of these on my computer in a row, but you know what? I like it!
Then there’s this picture, the time we stayed in the Pearl Jam Suite at Seattle’s iconic Edgewater Inn. Perhaps she was always destined to be a rocker…
By the way, The Beatles once fished out the window of their room here….yes, they did and here is proof:
Now, back to that corn fritter…the one topped with the creme fraiche…you see, I will be making these today:
“Caviar Tater Tots!”
Yes, they sure are, and they are so easy and so delicious!
All you do is bake the Tot, then top it with some of that creme fraiche and a dollop of Tsar Nicolai Caviar – a delicious bite of love!
If I could, I’d make a dish that always gets a reaction from Alex like this:
Chez L’Ami Jean’s Famous Rice Pudding!
Yes, I captured Alex’s moment of pure joy when Paris Chef Stephane Jego created his signature dessert for her…if you click here you can find out all of the incredible ingredients hiding under the rice!
It’s a day to remember just how important your loved ones are – whether husbands, wives, partners, friends, family…they all deserve a “shout out” today…
So why not do it with food? Here are recipes for “Bacon Roses”, “Love Burgers” and more ways to say “I love you” with food!
I hope you all have a great day today, and that Alex isn’t too embarrassed by this!
