Nigella Lawson Eats Banana Skins! “What The Friday?!?!” Acclaimed Chef’s “Banana Skin Curry” Recipe! The Best Part Of The Banana!

Nigella Goes Bananas!

First, let me remind you that it is Friday, and I am prone to see a story that causes me to blurt out:

“What The Friday!?!?!?”

Why? Because acclaimed Chef, TV Host And Author Nigella Lawson wants us to dig into these!

Who’s Hungry?

That’s right, Nigella has a new TV show and the leads off with a recipe calling for old banana skins!

FYI, here’s the truth about banana skins:

“In fact, banana peels are not only edible but also rich in several key nutrients, including potassium, dietary fiber, polyunsaturated fats, and essential amino acids. Fiber, in particular, has been shown to promote regularity, stabilize blood sugar levels, and boost heart health.”

So there you go!

The Guardian took a look at Nigella’s wild culinary dish – Banana Skin Curry!

Here’s how The Guardian cheekily described her TV show recipe:

Name: Banana skins.

Age: Same age as the banana inside.

Appearance: Yellow, later brown or black. This is more about its uses though.

Something to slip up on, right? You’re probably going to throw one in here, to make me look silly. Old news. We’ve moved on, times have changed and banana skin has been repurposed.

What do we do with it now? We eat it.

No we don’t! Who does? Nigella does.

Hilarious!

Yes, this is the dish: “Banana Skin Curry” – and it is part of Nigella’s new TV show called “Cook, Eat, Repeat!”

She is getting lots of headlines around the world for this dish, which actually looks pretty tasty to me!

The controversy began the moment she poured boiling water over a pan full of banana skins. “I’ll explain later,” she tells the camera, teasingly.

Then, she cooked some shallots, garlic, ginger, coriander, spices, chili, coconut milk and lemon juice, which she added because:

“To add a bit of edge” she says – then she chopped up those hot, soaking banana skins and added them to the pot. She ended with cauliflower.

And that’s the dish!

Count Me In For The Banana Skins!

Well, I for one am intrigued! I think I just might try to find Nigella’s recipe and cook with banana skins to see what happens!

I’ve always tried to be open to unique ingredients and cooking methods…you remember I boldly ate a “Cheeseburger In A Can!”

So how was it? How indeed would it measure up to eating banana skins?

  4. Well, I haven’t exactly eaten banana skins the way she does, I did know that they have all these good things in them though. I clip them into tiny pieces with a scissor, and bury them in the soil of my planting pots in my container garden. It makes a huge difference. Thanks for the coffee.

  5. Nigella is still my favourite TV chef. She is so good to look at, I rarely notice what she is cooking!
I met her on a few occasions, when her first husband was dying from throat cancer and I attended their house as an EMT. She is a very nice person in ‘real life’, (despite what some newspapers say about her) and even more attractive than she looks on TV.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  7. I can hear my mother’s voice in my head on this one and I’d agree. Can’t see myself eating nana skins.
‘If Nigella jumped off a bridge, would you? Just because Nigella does it, doesn’t mean it’s right’ 😂

  10. Hmmm, an intriguing idea. I use zest in a lot of dishes to flavour them so I’m not throwing the idea out. I’m just thinking about it.
