Celebrating New Music From Tom Petty!
Tom Petty released so much great music in his career, and his tragic death stunned music fans…but now, a chance to hear new music from this master, because his most personal collection of music is being released with never-before-heard music!
The album “Wildflowers” was released in 1994, and many music fans consider it Petty’s most personal, heartfelt, and revealing artistic statement of his career.
The album was recorded over the course of two years and originally intended to be a two-disc album, and guess what?
Now it is!
“Wildflowers & All The Rest!
Tom Petty’s never-heard songs from that time are now being released! “Wildflowers & All The Rest” on Oct 16, 2020 compiles all 25 songs from the original recording sessions – the 15 songs from “Wildflowers”, plus 10 newly-released songs that were left off the original release.
The First Single Is Here!
“Leave Virginia Alone” is the lead single – Tom wrote “Leave Virginia Alone” in January 1993 — very early in the evolution of Wildflowers, and was performed once by Rod Stewart on an album decades ago.
There is also a video for the song, directed by Mark Seliger and Tom’s daughter Adria Petty. The video stars emerging actress/dancer Casimere Jollette (Netflix’s forthcoming “Tiny Pretty Things”) and was shot around Connecticut as well as in and around Seliger’s studio in New York City.
Here is the new music video:
The record label is releasing a ton of great information about the song. Here’s a snippet of Tom’s daughter as she discusses the video:
“In speaking with David Fricke on SiriusXM’s Tom Petty Radio, Adria notes, “We were very resourceful about trying to create a character that could be assigned to anyone. That’s why Virginia in this video is very mysterious but she has her little glimpses of characters. We really worked to cast someone authentic—that felt like they were really feeling their feelings and someone that you could believe. We really wanted the song to do the heavy lifting in this video, and sort of step out of the way and just give it something to breathe with.” Seliger furthers, “The one idea that kept coming back to both of us is that we really want Tom to be narrating the story. We really want to hear his voice as he runs you through this journey that this woman is having.”
Also, “Wildflowers (Home Recording),” a solo demo version of the classic title track, was also released, featuring never before seen footage of Tom at his home, shot by Martyn Atkins during the original recording of Wildflowers.
Here is that video:
Tom’s vision of the project is becoming a reality due to the commitment of his loving family, bandmates and collaborators who helped unearth many previously unheard gems.
“Wildflowers” was the second solo studio album by Petty after many best-selling albums with his band The Heartbreakers. It was a much more personal effort but still includes most of his bandmates on various songs, and is of course chock full of classic Petty songs – and the album was a massive worldwide hit, and certified 3× platinum in the United States.
“You Don’t Know How It Feels” and the title track were also huge hit singles, but I really love his more intimate songs “It’s Good To Be King” and “Wake Up Time”…

Petty’s tragic death has left a great hole in rock music…but even more than his solo music and the music with The Heartbreakers, he was also part of one of the greatest super groups ever!
“The Traveling Wilburys” were Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison!
They had so much great music – you can see some of their best music videos here:
