Hugh Jackman Live At The Hollywood Bowl!
My wife Alex and I were lucky enough to see Hugh Jackman at the legendary Hollywood Bowl – which was packed with celebrities all eager to see the Actor/Singer/Entertainer put on a two hour+ show –
Jackman performed songs from his entire career, including
The Greatest Showman
Les Misérables
The Boy From Oz
and more from Broadway and Film – and he told great stories about all of them as well.
First and foremost, Jackman is a great stage performer – he commanded the Bowl and kept the audience riveted throughout.
The show is surprisingly candid and intimate – Jackman introduces his wife and daughter in the crowd and spends time talking about his love for them both.
The show is beautifully staged, and Jackman made perfect use of the Bowl, stepping out many times into the audience, thanks to the walkway that encircles some of the seats.
“The Man. The Music. The Show” will hit 90 cities around the world. It began on May 7 2019 and wraps October 20 in Mexico City.
The show begins with “The Greatest Show” and never slows down – Jackman wears lots of great outfits and The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra sounded flawless as usual!
The setlist has more than 20 songs from Jackman’s movie and theater career – and a special section dedicated to aboriginal music from his home country of Australia – and he tells lots of stories throughout as well!
Here is one funny moment: Jackman plays drums for the song “Jump” by Van Halen, then does some Wolverine poses and make a Ryan Reynolds joke – which he begs us not to share on social media – so of course, here it is!
Of course, the pop culture phenomenon “The Greatest Showman” was featured heavily.
Here is his performance of “From Now On” from “Showman” as he tells a great story about himself as a 19-year old in Australia.
Yes, Keala Settle from “The Greatest Showman” was part of the concert as well!
Keala Settle joined Hugh Jackman at The Hollywood Bowl and performed a rousing live rendition of “This Is Me” from “The Greatest Showman!” Here is that story with a live clip of her performance:

Wow–so fun! Thanks for sharing this with us, John. He is so very talented (and wears a pair of tuxedo plants alright too!). Looking forward to checking out Settle’s song too!

I am so jealous it is unbelievable. Is he what theatre people call a triple threat????.

Yes, exactly! He can sing, dance, act – and as you can see from the clip he’s not a bad impromptu drummer either! Thanks for commenting!

I saw him performing at the National Theatre many years ago – a really great actor and singer!

Thanks for the comment! Yes, he really wow’d the crowd, and had some fun with his “Wolverine” persona, since its 180 degrees opposite from this!

I love Le Mis, John. A great post. Unfortunately, he is going to be in either SA or the UK.

Yes, Robbie he performed a song from that show as well…I can only assume this is just the beginning of a more extensive tour still to come – he clearly LOVES it!

The success of this, and his obvious love for live performing, suggests to me that he will do this for awhile!

My wife adores The Greatest Showman. She would love to have seen that show, I’m sure.
(I must be missing a ‘gene’, as I thought it was boring!) 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, Jackman has a lot of fun in his conversation with the audience about how alot of the guys in the crowd wanted to see Wolverine, while the ladies loved the “Showman!”

I really hated ‘Wolverine’ too. 🙂
But I do like Jackman, as a rule. 🙂

Did you see the final film “Logan?” They made it “R”-rated, lost all the stupid macho stuff and just made it a great action film with a killer little girl co-star!

Haven’t seen it yet, John. But I did watch ‘The Wolverine’.

That was a bad movie, but try “Logan” if you find it for free – it’s a dark, angry action film and he actually plays a character NOT a caricature!

Will do, John. 🙂

He was indeed “The Greatest Showman” but surprisingly candid and intimate in his stage talk as well…he spent a lot of time talking about the love for his family, who were there!
