The Regrettes Rock Bottle Rock 2019!
One reason I love going to Napa Valley’s annual Bottle Rock music festival is to discover new bands – and this year I heard The Regrettes!
Not only that, they are one of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamildrops”! More on that in a minute but first, let’s meet the band!
The Regrettes are a terrific blend of punk rock, riot grill, garage pop and more, and are from Los Angeles. The band is led by frontwoman Lydia Night.
Their current line-up:
Lydia Night – lead vocals, rhythm guitar (2015–present)
Genessa Gariano – lead guitar, backing vocals (2015–present)
Brooke Dickson – bass (2018–present)
Drew Thomsen – drums (2018–present)
They began releasing music in 2016, and in 2018 their latest album “Attention Seeker” came out…
The latest album includes the song “Red Light”, which I captured live at Bottle Rock…
Red Light
“You can’t love me
You’re not allowed to
Cause if you did
I’d probably run from you
You can’t hate me
Though you probably do
Cause then I might just die
And have to blame you
I can’t breathe but maybe that’s okay
Maybe I’ll just save it for another rainy day
I can’t sleep but maybe that’s alright
I can save my sleeping for another empty night
Kiss me at the red light one more time
Every time I think of you feels like a crime
Well I could be green, red, orange, purple or blue
Only if it means that I’m keeping you
Here they are performing “Red Light” live at Bottle Rock, after Lydia welcomes the crowd to the festival:
Night had a great personality, and the band sounded great! They performed all of their songs live, but I also wanted to call attention to their music videos as well.
Here is the music video for their new song called “Dress Up”:
And here is some random trivia found online:
On May 22, 2018 the tour bus containing all their belongings was stolen from outside the Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham, UK where they later played a sold-out gig.
So there you go – but even more fascinating is that Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Creator of “Hamilton”, has a new series of song remixes – and The Regrettes were chosen to participate!
Miranda announced a new series of 13 Hamilton-related recordings called “Hamildrops”, releasing once a month from December 2017 to December 2018.
On May 31, 2018, The Regrettes contributed the sixth “Hamildrop”, a cover of the show’s signature ballad “Helpless”. Lin-Manuel Miranda credited producer Mike Elizondo as having suggested the idea of using them, and they give it a nice punk-y pop!
Here is the video of their performance of the song:
My wife Alex and I were lucky enough to see the show on Broadway, with Miranda, on the night he won the Pulitzer Prize! See that story here:
Let me know what you think of The Regrettes!

How fun! Seems like a festival I’d like to visit! I leased a place in Napa when my daughter was younger. Love the area!

It might be because of where I live. Some videos can only be played in the States. I have experienced this before.

I had never heard of the band, John. They have great ‘retro’ feel though, reminding me of the 1990s.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, they haven’t “broken” into the mainstream yet, but they are terrific and I look forward to seeing it happen! Thanks for the comment!
