Amazing British Weather Man’s 58-LETTER Town Forecast – Pronounced Perfectly! Yes, 58 LETTERS!

Welcome To “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch!”

Yes, it’s the real name of a town in Wales, and thanks to British weatherman Liam Dutton, we now know how to pronounce it!

Yes, Dutton was giving a weather forecast for all of England and he chose to mention this town, and he pronounced the 58-letter name of Welsh village “Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch” flawlessly!

This video is a few years old, but it’s new to me, and a marvel to behold!

Watch and admire!

Bravo, Liam!

What a flawless pronunciation! Oh, and I have updated this post since Liam saw it and made a couple of notes for me – thanks Liam!

My other friend, Pete Johnson, also sent a note to tell me that the translation for the name is:

‘Saint Mary’s Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio of the red cave’.

Thanks so much, Pete! You should all be following him at:

And a little research shows that the town is a bit of a tourist destination, just for shots like these:

Ha! This is why I love the internet – to come across these funny and fascinating stories and sharing them with all of you! Because I work in television, I am particularly interested in the wacky bloopers that happen every single day around the world:

Who knows what was going on here – but here is a link to some really entertaining bloopers – check them out!

Once again, bravo to Weather Forecaster Liam Dutton!

  1. Gosh, what a name. Worse than some of the African names which are also long and tongue twisters.

  2. Liam Dutton still does the weather reports on a commercial channel, by the way. 🙂

  3. John, you might like to know what the name means in English. This is the translation.
‘Saint Mary’s Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio of the red cave’.
The name is a legend in Britain and almost impossible to pronounce correctly, without training. Unless you are Welsh, I suppose. 🙂
    Best wishes, Pete.
